If you have a team of employees that you would like to view their progress, assign different tasks to various employees based on their specific talents or qualifications and have all projects tracked while doing so, this is the program for you. It has options to hold ideas, images, mood boards, as well as your products being developed and put on the market. It keeps everyone in the department up to speed and not just the one person in charge of it and their supervisor.

We had a layoff where the employee who was responsible for data integrity was let go. Their job was to make sure all new products, projects etc. had a naming scheme that fell in with our business rules. When they were let go we were able to create a PowerApp(s) that helped take some of their tasks and pass it on to the user with feature-rich data entry screen that interfaced with our ERP's data source. I'm not saying this will replace people in the workforce but it helps alleviate some of the burdens a scenario like this might create.

Cons
- If you don't have a champion, the tool won't be used. Just like a shared drive, it has to be kept clean and organized or no one will use it.
- No Gantt chart functionality.
- Printing customization doesn't exist - i.e. doesn't show sub-tasks.

- I feel that although it is possible to adapt the tablet view to desktop it can be cumbersome and the screen ratio is not right. There should be an option for making a desktop or browser based application specifically; or at least more screen ratio choices.
- "PowerApps Desktop" is only available via windows store; for some enterprise users(specifically LTSB users) that makes it unavailable as windows store cannot be used with this version of Windows. A stand alone download or an explanation in the documentation would be nice to have.
- I have spent a ton of time changing the formating over to the standard that I am using throughout the application on each data card or places where copy paste isn't an option. A format painter or a place to provide typical formating options such as font type and color would be a HUGE time saver for those of us trying to brand our applications.

Asana is great for how I end up using it. When a new project launches and I get busy, I can easily pick it up and begin using it again and as I get more time (or the project completes) I can drop it again. It seems to morph better than any other application to exactly what project I'm working on, what I need to track, etc. It simply fits into my life extremely well and I'll end up using it again every time I start a new project.

They don't fix everything, but they have certainly gone the extra mile for us. When we were frustrated with a recent change that altered our default view of every project, changing it from all projects being visible to just incomplete projects being visible, they wrote a custom script to change all of our default views back for us, so we didn't have to manually click 3,000 times (we have over a thousand projects).

Alternatives Considered
Asana was developed with a very specific function in mind. Assigning and tracking tasks and projects. It does this very very well and doesn't really do a whole lot yes, which is perfectly fine. The only alternatives I could think of would be some sort of Dropbox or Google Drive document keeping track of task assignment. While, this might work, it's definitely not as feature-packed as Asana. And you'll still use either Dropbox or Google Drive for document collaboration.

Although Zoho allowed for some unique customization abilities including html styling and simple scripting language. In the end it came down to the Office 365 and choice of many other connections that lead me to choose PowerApps.

Return on Investment
- Asana eventually became a time waster for me as the admin.
- After roll out company-wide, it wasn’t simple for people to use and it eventually started to not be used at all.
- The cost was fair. However, it showed us that we should really go with another, perhaps more substantial, player that may a little more.

- I am still developing my application but assuming everything works the way I have laid it out then PowerApps will help us to turn a 10yo marcro-powered Excel workbook with mostly static work-flows into a streamlined and less mistake-prone workflow while utilizing a single database.
- The application will allow us to access dynamic project information in the field via tablet. Previously this could only be done via phone call or email.
