ASG-Remote Desktop

If multiple sets of credentials and User Directories are involved across the servers you're connecting to, this is a huge help in organizing them all and managing changes over time. Having multiple concurrent server connections in tabs instead of separate windows is also much more convenient. While we're only using RDP, there are multiple connection methods to facilitate a mixed environment.

N-able Take Control (formerly Solarwinds Take Control)

In situations in which you have high-end, up-to-date hardware systems, Take Control will thrive. Using the software on older system, or clients that do not wish to update to current OS/hardware, Take Control will suffer.

Cons

ASG-Remote Desktop

  • I'd like to be able to tag computers by criteria (ie location, function, etc) then be able to sort them in the left-hand pane.

N-able Take Control (formerly Solarwinds Take Control)

  • Copy and paste functions from the host to a remote desktop is cumbersome.
  • Screen sizing is an issue for lower resolution devices (servers).

Alternatives Considered

ASG-Remote Desktop

ASG-Remote is very flexible and with so many options available it makes the configuration you want for your setup super simple. Other products do not offer the extra features for database and reporting. As well, it offers all the connection types you can possibly think of. The ability to automate tasks for regular servers and workstations is amazing!

N-able Take Control (formerly Solarwinds Take Control)

Take Control can be accessed through a browser whereas Windows Remote Desktop requires settings on the PC and device to remote into the end device. Installing the end devices application has mostly been a flawless install with limited setting configurations. GoToMyPC has often required a reboot of the end device in order to get it working.

N-able Take Control (formerly Solarwinds Take Control)

  • Looks professional and the ease of addressing issues raised by the RMM gives clients confidence in me as their provider.
  • Managed Service clients tend to appreciate minimal work interruption, so quick connections that don't require user interaction is great.
