Aspect Workforce Management

I would say Aspect is less appropriate with smaller businesses or businesses with a smaller amount of clients. Aspect is really useful if you have a lot of customers and employees as you have to schedule the employee breaks and time off around the business needs. A lot of smaller businesses don't need that ability since they might not have the demanding customers like a lot of larger companies would have.

Their learning system is unmatched - it really has most of the features we required in our environment which is heavily instructor led as well as online. If they can get their support lined out to provide timely support they will be the leader in this area and I would be able to give them a 10.

Pros

  • easy and quick to use- you don't have to waste hours explaining how to use WFM with your employees
  • reliable- multiple employees can be making changes and testing staffing changes without the site crashing
  • easy to balance employee scheduling with your business needs

  • CSOD does a great job of communicating their road map to their clients. They also listen to their clients and roll those suggestions into the product. Finally they do a great job of providing resources so clients can figure out ahead of time how system updates will impact their own environment.
  • The tool tool itself is very robust. I would have to say that 95% of our use cases have been met by current functionality.
  • Ease of use for the end user. We don't actually train our users on how to use CSOD. They have been able to take training and fill out performance reviews without any training other than what they receive via email. For example, when someone gets assigned to training for the first time, the system automatically emails them. In that email, we include first time use instructions, and they just run with it!

Cons

  • The configuration of the system is quite complex and very difficult to administer.
  • Initial training on the product is simply focused on the product and it typically not done using a customers real data. Since many customers do not have a strong background in WFM to begin with, the training should focus more on the fundamental of WFM before it dives into how to use the tool. You have to learn more about how it is best to use the tool for real world environments and not just how to click here and go there.
  • RTA has not been updated in years. It does not offer real-time schedule adherence scores and the reporting is terrible. Reporting is specific to each workspace and you lose data each time you close a workspace.
  • The shrinkage calculator feature that was added a few years ago is a great feature but very difficult to reconcile. If you are not an extreme expert with the very confusing superstate philosophy in eWFM it can be disastrous.

  • It is not always straightforward, but we are still learning.
  • There is often slow response time when making configuration changes. Changes can sometimes take up to one hour to appear.
  • Some features can only be enabled or configured on the back end by the vendor, and it often takes a long time for them to respond.
  • If you enroll all employees in a curriculum, you can’t unenroll them unless you go one by one through every account individually.
  • We’ve had reports of users being unable to move through a curriculum because the training would not mark as “complete” even though they have finished everything.
  • There are some parts of the interface that aren’t user friendly, i.e. you have to go through a lot of clicks. I think there could be UI improvements.
  • The way the widgets displays training that is assigned to a user is not consistent. It doesn’t show everything, and the order it displays training titles is random. It is difficult to tell a user what to expect when they see their home page.
  • I do wish it had a better sandbox environment. It’s a one-time refresh and you have to pay for additional refreshes which makes it more difficult to test. If we want to load a test curriculum and assign it to people, we have to do it in production, then deactivate it later – it will always be there. If we want to make changes to the interface, you cannot publish it, since it’s a production only environment. It makes it trickier to make changes. By contrast, Workday does a good job in this area – but you pay extra.

Aspect as a tool and as a company are both great. Working with the Aspect team, will make you feel like you are their most important and only customer. They admit when they are at fault and are willing to offer any assistance they can. We obtained many tools from Aspect as a respected and valued customer.

Once the initial set up of the software is complete and/or you are familiar with the software, it is easy to use and runs like a dream. However, if you are unfamiliar with the software or have used a competitor's product, some features can seem difficult to learn or get used to.

It’s surprisingly slow for a SAAS product. When you click on links, there’s no hourglass or waiting indicator, so it’s difficult to tell if the system is going to respond.

I was impressed with the support I received. There were never any long delays when I had issues and the representatives that I worked with were always patient and eager to fully understand not only my problem but our business processes surrounding the problem.

They are still working out issues with their support ticket system. I think we are now experienced enough that when we submit a ticket, there is not a quick easy answer and involves higher levels of support so it does tend to take a LONG time to get assistance. When there is a major issue, their communication is getting better but when you have a defect to report or a high level support it's going to be a while. They do have EXCELLENT online help, a very active online community where customers help customers and great user groups so there is other avenues of help

Implementation of the software was not difficult but it was tedious for us due to the fact that our processes had not kept up with the times and we had to make a large number of process changes along with setting up the software.

Dig deep on what your current processes are and how they match up to Cornerstone OnDemand functionality. It's not that the Cornerstone OnDemand is bad, it just the amount of work it requires you to do to get your current data to fit into their system.

Definitely the most intricate workforce tool out there, no others stack up, and this has the most in depth detail

Workday has a LMS or LES as they call it (Learning Experience System) just a industry buzz phrase to make you think they're an immersive social learning experience. they were too young to meet our needs Fall of 2017 but they had a lot of promising updates coming down the pipeline. We chose not to implement as the only way to meet our needs would be to use work arounds we'd be trapped in when future updates came. We'r keeping an eye on them for the future.

Return on Investment

  • Staffing cost
  • Identifying gaps in the day, using intra-days to map out and foresee trouble areas and plan for them
  • Cross functioning teams, using the tools this application has to help manage different LOB's
Roy Huron profile photo
  • We're just completing our first cycle. Half the organization is not embracing but cultural change factors into this.
  • After 3yrs of use we did not renew and turned to a more simple design in system.
