Assembla Workspaces

Assembla works well when you are working with multiple groups or entities. We dealt with different time zones, different levels of involvement with the projects, etc so this allows for us to have responses back in a quicker fashion. It also helps us clue in the appropriate people and rely less on following multiple email chains

BugHerd

BugHerd really good if you do web design. It doesn't work for mobile app design really.

Pros

  • Provided tickets that could be assigned to multiple users within the organization and our partner so that the appropriate people were involved.
  • The ability to escalate and prioritize requests so that the most important tasks were getting handled first.
  • A reference point to go back to prior tickets to use previous solutions for any new problems. It created a history for us.
  • Ability to work on projects at our own pace.

  • It's easy for clients as well as our internal teams to use and input feedback.
  • It's easy to use and helps gather information a client/user may not normally supply.

  • Mobile ability.

  • You could add more users for your levels to allow more clients to add feedback.
  • You could allow color changes for websites that are light/dark to display more easily.
  • You could work to allow easier use on mobile devices.

Alternatives Considered

Assembla was actually chosen by our vendor so we did not have a say in the selection. However, the product more than served the need we had for better distribution and completion of tasks. It has an easy to view interface, user friendly and efficient. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a way to manage ongoing projects.

It's better than everything else we've found. So far if we were going to find something better for us -- we'd probably need to make it ourselves.

Return on Investment

  • We were able to spend less time tracking down the status of projects.
  • We could become more self-sufficient on reviewing prior resolutions to help with current problems.
  • Tasks were responded to quickly because we did not have to email one person, wait for an out of office email and then try someone else. Our task got assigned to the next available person.

  • We have been able to get sites launched faster.
  • We can turn around tasks/bugs more quickly and it's less research to try to recreate things.
  • It helps us speak the same language with clients that don't do web development/design.
