Automox
Automox is well-suited for managing workstations but lacks flexibility for server environments.
It excels in scenarios where systems may not regularly connect to the corporate network but have internet access, ensuring devices can still check in and receive timely patches. This provides organizations with confidence in maintaining patch compliance across remote endpoints.
However, effective use of Automox requires staff who are proficient in PowerShell scripting. The platform has limited native support for third-party applications, often requiring custom worklets to manage software updates. It performs best in environments that primarily rely on widely used, off-the-shelf software.

Forcepoint
It's very user friendly and easy to use. Rules can be managed on user-friendly interface web site console. For-example, violation can be release via management module. It provide prevention sensitive data against accidental data loss and compromised. Rule set sometimes work, sometimes does not work. There is no OCR feature. Forcepoint DLP tool does not have any AI feature that can learn user behavior or data and produces alarm.

Forcepoint
  • It has predominantly protected us from unauthorized parties and has provided us with better visibility and control over our data.
  • This software has also successfully prevented us from both malicious and accidental tasks, which are quite flexible actions when it comes to the violation of data loss prevention policies.
  • This product has been successful in improving compliance and even mitigating compliance violations, which further facilitated IT security.
  • I think there is room for improvement, as the user interface is slightly rough and difficult to adopt in the beginning. The software also hangs up at a few instances, which leads to some wasting of time and annoyance, but other than that, this software is good. The technical staff should work on the complexities for a better user experience.

Cons
Automox
  • There exists an issue where you register some Amazon AMIs, which in even samples of 4 or 5, sometimes contain a duplicate identifier. Automox has provided a fix document, but it requires manual intervention and digging to discover this. I think they should identify a better way to assign UUIDs to machines, as sometimes registering too many VMs makes others "fall off"
  • Allow for multiple global admins

  • Forcepoint technical support--specially for users who go with essential support--is challenging to get support on time. You need the ticket to be raised long beforehand to get support from TAC. However, in the case of enterprise support, its is not like this technical person will come on a priority basis.
  • However it comes with higher prices, especially for SMB, it is allowed to pay that amount for support only.

This is a software that just works. Once configured its a set and forget kind of tool that keeps things up to date and alerts me if something is wrong. I was able to work through an expansion project to deploy an additional 500 devices in almost no time and create a robust self-patching environment.

We have been fairly happy with the product and how it has worked. We have looked at other vendors for url filter and such and have not found one that meets our needs or does what we have been doing with Websense. The product has been fairly stable and we have only had a few issues in the past. We have all seen that it was one of the highest leaders from the Gartner Group Magic Quadrant for Web Gateways.

Usability
Automox
It's so simple, well laid out and does not crowd me with too much information or info that I don't want to see. Very impressed with the product design. I wish all of my dashboards and portals were as basic. Sometimes, I don't need to see everything all at once, and only critical or high level data is necessary... then I can click to drill down as needed on the targeted endpoints.

For us, Forcepoint Data Loss Prevention was difficult to administer, did not work well when it did work, was incredibly expensive for the feature set you get, and was difficult to uninstall when we moved on from the software. Once it was fully set up, it worked occasionally for us.

Forcepoint
Support from Forcepoint has been lacking. When calling in with a high priority issue we rarely are able to work with a technician immediately. The queue waits are very long and when you get through there are no support engineers available and we need to wait for a call back for hours it seems.

Implementation Rating
Automox
Implementing Automox successfully starts with a clear strategy for organizing and grouping devices based on operating systems, environments, or business criticality. This ensures that patching and configuration policies can be applied with precision. A phased rollout approach is essential—beginning with a pilot group allows teams to test patching schedules, reboot behaviors, and custom Worklets before scaling across the organization. Leveraging Worklets from the start can significantly boost automation by enforcing security baselines and performing routine system tasks. Integration with existing SOC tools, such as SIEMs, enhances visibility and response time by correlating patch compliance with threat intelligence. Additionally, aligning patching schedules with operational downtimes minimizes disruptions, and consistent monitoring and reporting helps maintain compliance and prepare for audits. Overall, Automox offers a streamlined and effective solution, but its true value is unlocked through thoughtful planning, testing, and integration with existing IT and security workflows.

Automox
Previously, we used WSUS to manage our Windows Updates. WSUS was needed to be managed in-house and any issues would need to be fixed by us. This would cause us to lose hours needing to troubleshoot unexpected issues that arise and take away time from other tasks. Automox has regular maintenance they do on their end. They are also very responsive when responding to tickets and issues that arise. They have always been happy to work with us when we put in support requests for any issues that may come up or even for any questions we have.

Return on Investment
Automox
  • Patches are now fully up to date and we have no longer been dinged for it from our pen testing partners.
  • Reduced man hours spent on maintaining an update server and the hours spent looking at each machine to ensure it patched all software both windows and third party.
  • Allows for us to provide a vendor with a means to connect to our systems without the use of a VPN.

Forcepoint
  • The exchange of financial documents with customers creates extreme risk as data loss could result in financial and reputation damage to the customer. The cost of deploying Forcepoint is fractions of pennies compared to the potential financial impact of data loss.
  • There is some administrative overhead associated as false positives are inevitable, requiring a manual review and a potential loss of productivity.
