AWS Backup

AWS [Backup] does what it intends on doing. AWS [Backup] is very fast, however, for that speed, you'll end up with a high bill at the end of the month. Compared to competitors, AWS [Backup] is a lot more expensive than others. However, I believe it makes it up in it's versatility - there's no company more compatible with others than AWS.

Carbonite Backup for Microsoft Office 365

It is a low cost and relatively simple backup solution to implement which provided a lot of protection against most modern threats. It was easy to deploy to all of our users and easy enough to access backups. Their support responsiveness was also excellent and easy to work with which made the experience much better.

With a HUGE online help base, and very knowledgeable and fast support teams. They also have reps on the Spiceworks forums actively helping members in real time and support a very large VAR and MSP / Re seller Networking that are all trained and hyper knowledgeable in the solutions offered by AWS.

The support was very good though we didn't need a lot of it as it is an easy system to set up. We just wanted to make sure we were set up properly and that if we did need to access a backup we could do so as quickly as possible.

Alternatives Considered

AWS Backup

Being an AWS service, AWS Backup integrates in a native way with other AWS services, providing an easy way to backup those services. Being able to create separate backup plans that meet specific business and regulatory compliance requirements provides us with capabilities to face auditing processes.

Carbonite Backup for Microsoft Office 365

We found Carbonite to be much more user-friendly, well priced, and easier to set up than the others. We originally tried some of the bigger players but found them to be too cumbersome and hard to use. Additionally, we found their support systems quite unhelpful whereas Carbonite's was excellent.

Return on Investment

AWS Backup

  • We use a lot of AWS services, so backup goals are now simpler to achieve.
  • We let auditors access the dashboard to check backup status.

Carbonite Backup for Microsoft Office 365

  • From a stress perspective, having Carbonite backing up our O365 was one less thing to worry about.
  • It was also much cheaper than many alternatives we tried.
  • We did have to run backups after hours as the process would slow our systems down if done during the day.
