Specific scenarios where Communifire would be well suited to an organisation, would be companies that are people focused and committed to frequent and open communication channels from both the top-down and bottom-up. It also would suit organizations that are committed to providing the staff opportunities to collaborate, share and actively contribute to company initiatives and planning. If these aren't elements of your organization's culture, the system would still work for you or those companies who just want to push information out and have an effective intranet. Communifire would cater to these scenarios just as well and is more than capable of providing that type of simple solution.

Mattermost

Mattermost is a fantastic alternative to Slack and Microsoft Teams in terms of cost-effectiveness, simplicity of maintenance, and control over your business data. We chose Mattermost because our company's structure is cost-prohibitive for Slack and Microsoft Teams. Mattermost allows us the user control we need to attach external guest users to specific projects, as well as the security of knowing exactly where our business data is stored. A self-managed installation of Mattermost may not be as effective when applied to large, rapidly scaling teams as that may require more IT support than available - however they do provide a paid, managed option.

Pros

Axero

  • Communifire allows people to connect easily through instant chat and messaging. It works similarly to other social media platforms like Facebook so its not hard to learn.
  • Communifire makes it easy to share news and events with our community and the presentation of this information looks very professional.
  • I found Communifire quite easy to configure to our individual needs. There were a lot of options to turn things on or off. This was important to us because in some areas of our community we wanted to allow our contractors many features and in other areas we wanted to really limit what was on offer.
  • We had a big list of things we needed a platform to do. Communifire ticked all the boxes.

  • Customization could be better, with more options, such as theme, layout, and notifications
  • Some users have trouble with distinguishing between Teams and Channels, and are unsure of hierarchy or how to organize.

Mattermost works perfectly within our company as a way to communicate seamlessly. I have had no issues with the product and continue to use it often while on and off site. The mobile app allows me to continue to communicate with my team even when I don't have my laptop with me.

This rating has a caveat - there is always room for improvement, and this team gets it.You always learn from customers how to do things better and easier, so it is a constant learning of how people use the site. Although the search engine is exceptional, most people do not use it as their first line of research.Much of the usability has to do with layout - and is not just a software usability item, so the rating is severely dependent up on the layout/options you choose for your usage. And their team will do anything in their power to get the results and layout you want.The areas that need improvement - and acknowledged by the team - are the administrative tools. There are a ton of options, and it takes a little to learn some of those. For most people, however, this won't be an issue, because the support team will always help you. This is always the case with more power. If there were fewer options it would no doubt be easier, but they give you the keys to all of the cars in the lot; so a little more to learn.

It's an extremely easy to use software, and I would recommend it to every company that is growing. I think they could improve their notification system, as it gets a little spammy sometimes and important notifications get lost. Also needs to improve the number of private chats that you are allowed to create.

We have not had to contact support for Mattermost ever. All that we have needed has been available in the documentation or website. One of our DevOps team members set it up in a couple of hours. The whole team was using Mattermost that same day. No support needed.

Mattermost

Mattermost was in a class of its own when compared to a host of Microsoft solutions and ownCloud. MS products are always encumbered with ongoing licensing and maintenance costs, plus the cost of people to maintain the servers those run on. Mattermost runs on a cloud VM and is basically self-healing for the most part. ownCloud was almost a success, but never quite achieved that, and then ownCloud's licensing and custom development got in the way.

  • It has reduced ticket quantity by a vast percentage, which has reduced costs due to less call being placed to the help desk
  • It has reduced email flow as well, which requires less management by Mail Administrators
  • It has made software developers within the organization very happy, as most of them are now ambassadors for Mattermost
