Azure Machine Learning Studio

For [a] data scientist require[d] to build a machine learning model, so he/she didn't worry about infrastructure to maintain it.
All kind of feature[s] such as train, build, deploy and monitor the machine learning model available in a single suite.
If someone has [their] own environment for ML studio, so there [it would] not [be] useful for them.

RStudio

RStudio products are great for technical teams / team members. The integration of both R and python in a single product allows developers to make use of their preferred language for data analysis. Those team members who are analytical but do not have a technical background won't be able to fully use the products; for them it's better to have a different tool for exploratory analysis and BI.

Pros

Azure Machine Learning Studio

  • User friendliness: This is by far the most user friendly tool I've seen in analytics. You don't need to know how to code at all! Just create a few blocks, connect a few lines and you are capable of running a boosted decision tree with a very high R squared!
  • Speed: Azure ML is a cloud based tool, so processing is not made with your computer, making the reliability and speed top notch!
  • Cost: If you don't know how to code, this is by far the cheapest machine learning tool out there. I believe it costs less than $15/month. If you know how to code, then R is free.
  • Connectivity: It is super easy to embed R or Python codes on Azure ML. So if you want to do more advanced stuff, or use a model that is not yet available on Azure ML, you can simply paste the code on R or Python there!
  • Microsoft environment: Many many companies rely on the Microsoft suite. And Azure ML connects perfectly with Excel, CSV and Access files.

RStudio

  • Excellent integration of both R and Python IDEs in one.
  • Simple publishing of dashboards and applications from RStudio IDE to RStudio Connect.
  • Integration of package management with projects to support collaboration.
  • Excellent contributors to the R Open Source community, really invested in its health.
  • Support integration with Enterprise AD environments for security.

Cons

Azure Machine Learning Studio

  • It would be great to have text tips that could ease new users to the platform, especially if an error shows up
  • Scenario-based documentation
  • Pre-processing of modules that had been previously run. Sometimes they need to be re-run for no apparent reason

RStudio

  • Management of some deeper aspects of the platform is not a so straight-forward, especially when it comes to deal to customization (connections, packages management...).
  • Administration console may be a bit richer, making available of some operations that you may be interested on doing by user interface and not by shell.
  • Deploying apps is still a bit problematic for some particular (rare!) packages, make it easier to install packages not from the CRAN.

Rstudio is my go - to language for anything involving analysis. It has far more capabilities for data analysis than Python (in my opinion). New packages for novel analytical techniques are often published. Rstudio continues to implement great updates every few months as well. Finally, I really like that I can write LateX documents in Rstudio and integrate R code into them.

I think it's a quick and easy to use tool. The IDE is very intuitive and easy to adapt to. You do not need to learn a lot of things to use this tool. Any programmer and a person with knowledge or R can quick use this tool without issues.

Support is nonexistent. It's very frustrating to try and find someone to actually talk to. The robot chatbots are just not well trained.

Since R is trendy among statisticians, you can find lots of help from the data science/ stats communities. If you need help with anything related to RStudio or R, google it or search on StackOverflow, you might easily find the solution that you are looking for.

Alternatives Considered

Azure Machine Learning Studio

It is easier to learn, it has a very cost effective license for use, it has native build and created for Azure cloud services, and that makes it perfect when compared against the alternatives. As a Microsoft tool, it has been built to contain many visual features and improved usability even for non-specialist users.

RStudio

Before implementing RStudio, our team struggling with coding in R. We tried to implement Visual Studio and Jupyter as alternatives to RStudio. But Jupyter was found to be not user friendly for our end-user and Visual Studio enterprise was not that great. We have not evaluated any other products available.

Return on Investment

Azure Machine Learning Studio

  • Productivity: Instead of coding and recoding, Azure ML helped my organization to get to meaningful results faster;
  • Cost: Azure ML can save hundreds (or even thousands) of dollars for an organization, since the license costs around $15/month per seat.
  • Focus on insights and not on statistics: Since running a model is so easy, analysts can focus more on recommendations and insights, rather than statistical details

RStudio

  • RStudio has allowed us to rapidly build and deploy functional Shiny applications that execute underlying code. In many cases, users don't realize they are running R under the hood.
  • Allowed us to integrate Python code and R code in a single application/visualization.
