First of all, BambooHR is not cost-effective if you do not have a lot of processes that you are looking to streamline. In short, you need to examine what you are currently doing and determine whether BambooHR has an equivalent process that can replace it and help make things smoother. Mid-size companies might have better success with BambooHR given the cost, as well, but smaller companies can manage if the budget is there. If you're looking to provide more self-serve options to employees and free up your HR team/individual to do more on the strategy and development side of HR, BambooHR can definitely help with that. Ultimately, you need to consider the ROI on BambooHR and whether its implementation will provide the right amount of benefits to justify the change overall, which may be harder than it sounds in some cases.

The lack of company support or response to inquiries makes this company a risk for anyone looking to adopt a HRIS/ Payroll system. There is not enough access to the back end of the program to be able to fix problems yourself and due to the lack of support or a dedicated person to reach out to, problems go on for a really long time.

  • Helpful homepage that includes lots of useful information at a glance. I especially like the "Who's Out" section which shows photos of all the employees not in the office. Because we are a global company with lots of offices in different time zones, it's essential to know who's on vacation for communication purposes.
  • The interface is very user friendly. The functionality felt intuitive the first time I used it: I instantly knew how to request time off, look up other employees, etc.
  • The employee directory is very useful. It displays everyone's title, photo, LinkedIn, contact info, etc. It's easy to search by name, title, department, etc. and to create custom filters.

  • One of Paycor's strengths is that they continually strive to meet the needs of their partner companies (customers). I can always count on them working to make things better and introducing updates and products users actually want and need.
  • Customer Service is another strength. They are timely, responsive, and strive to get you the right answer instead of guess.
  • Another strength is that Paycor wants to partner with its customers. As a customer, I do not feel that we are just another number. I feel as if they genuinely want to listen and value what I have to say. They offer a variety of avenues to share your feedback and concerns.

  • I found the playform not so intuitive when it came to customizing user role permissions. Again, I had no formal training, so I suspect this is more user inexperience vs a system issue.
  • Very minor, but to access the main company calendar you have to hover over a particular section of the homepage. Employees would often struggle to find this.
  • I honestly cannot think of anything else. It really is a well thought out and designed platform.

  • You will wait on hold for hours on the customer service line until you have to hang up and get back to your real job.
  • I have never received a single response to any of the 5+ support tickets I have opened through their email support line.

We have tried other software in the last year and have not found it to be comparable to Bamboo HR especially in relation to the HR functionalities such as workflows, onboarding, automation, user-friendly experience, innovation, timekeeping, and ability to integrate with other 3rd party Payroll processing software. In addition, the employee ease of access and navigation of the platform makes this software crucial within our current culture of multi-site and remote work environments.

Overall usability is solid and consistent for both direct users in HR and the occasional users by staff. My rating is less than a 10 due to the challenges with using the performance review portal of the system with its lack of customizable capabilities. Also, while there is a good variety of standard reports, the reporting module is often out of service and the use of the program to create your own custom reports is not user friendly

Internally, there has been great support for it from management and to-date most people seem to use it without any notable complaints. Ongoing tech support is fine, but to be honest there is little to go wrong so we have had little need for it.

Implementation of any new software is going to be challenging, especially if you are maintaining an existing program concurrently. When it is time for dual-processing (both old and new software) prior to going live, be prepared to be stressed. But trust the process and it will be over soon.

  • The less time our employees need to go to HR for questions and requests, the faster we are able to move and get things done which allow for people to continue working on their day to day jobs. We have insight into when people will be in and out of the office and can schedule things accordingly. All around insight into employee information is fantastic. Great product.
