If you value integration over cost, Bamboo is clearly the way to go. It offers tight integration to the rest of the Atlassian suite, and when you need traceability from issue to build, Atlassian is the right way to go. However, if you find yourself needing to save on costs, you may consider taking an approach of rolling your own build system with open source alternatives, such as Jenkins, if you don't [mind] putting in a little extra elbow grease.

Again, TriNet does a really good job of providing health benefits at a very competitive price. This is the major point that keeps us with TriNet. Running Payroll is fast and efficient. I have very few complaints about anything with TriNet. I also like the TIme Off Tracking feature, but I still need to chase the employees to get their vacation and time-off requests into the system.

    Pros

    Atlassian

    • Levels of granularity. Organization has many projects that have many build plans that have many jobs that have many tasks, etc. And branch builds allow source control branches to be built separately.
    • Versatility. I can use bamboo to manage my Java, node, or .NET build plans. I can use it to spin up Windows or Linux build agents, or install it on a Mac to build there as well.
    • Bamboo integrates with other Atlassian products like Bitbucket, Stash, JIRA, etc. If a company commits to the entire Atlassian stack then work can be tracked through the whole development lifecycle which is really useful.

    • Being able to find a candidate per job through the Trinet's ATS.

    Cons

    Atlassian

    • Extremely hard barrier to entry for non-backend developers
    • Blackbox makes it hard to customize functionality
    • The inability to add features without breaking core functionality
    • No cloud solution
    • Tasks cannot be put in if/else statements
    • No clear right way to form build plans

    • The payroll platform does not currently allow for shift workers who are also salaried. This becomes a problem when you have terms or new hires. We have communicated this need to our account manager, and she said this may possibly be added next year.
    • 401k / retirement communication - I realize this is through Transamerica, but unless it is the annual reporting, our employees don't receive communication throughout the year. It would be a good idea to communicate at least quarterly with reminders to enroll, ways to reach out to someone when you have questions, etc.
    • Also payroll platform related - any payroll cycle that has new hires or terms requires us to an admin pay code in order to override the system's calculated hours for the salaried employees. It would be nice if we could enter those hours without having to do a manual plug.
    • TriNet was presented to our company as specializing in government contracting however there are numerous situations (previously described) that TriNet had no idea how to handle.
    • The TriNet platform (or company in general) is not able to handle employees who live overseas and are required to be paid in euros. It would be really great if this was part of the capability package.

Bamboo was fairly easy to navigate but in the end it always felt as if it was developed as a bolt-on and not a true group up user interface. There were multiple ways to get to everything and the path was never the same. So it was difficult for users to really get a feel of how to use the application.

I like the TriNet platform but I will say that I don't believe it is the easiest to use. I have been with platforms such as ADP, UltiPro, Great Plains, Paychex, and Gusto. So far, Gusto's platform is built in a way that it is easier to find what I need.

Support for Bamboo has started lack a little over the years. Atlassian has been moving more towards Bitbucket Pipelines and away from the on-premise install of Bamboo. While the tool is still great, it may take a little bit of time to get a question answered by official support.

The overall experience with TriNet has been excellent. From boarding to the daily questions/concerns: Our onboarding was extremely efficient. We had a very small window to switch vendors and TriNet was able to accommodate everything within the period we had. TriNet team is always available to help our company with questions or issues related to Payroll, Health Benefits, Retirement Benefits (401k), etc. TriNet also has a dedicated channel for our employees that can have their questions/issues solved via chat, phone, or email.

it was good, but now I haven't done much and since they changed their model, it's a lot harder to deal with. We're talking online training of the trinet platform and not the online training they provide, right? Their online training is ok, and is unfortunate that there is a totally separate model for training that costs extra when we would only watch one or two things. However, the mandatory sexual harassment training is actually pretty good, it was just a little clunky

We selected Bamboo because its capabilities to integrate with other Atlassian products specially Jira Software, Bitbucket and in some useful scenarios with Confluence. When Astrolabe was founded we used Gusto. They have a slick portal and they are significantly cheaper than TriNet (order of magnitude or more). Return on Investment

        Atlassian

        • It helped us achieve the Continuous Deployment and Continuous Integration goals for our applications, a huge milestone that saved a lot of time for developers in making the builds and deployments and saved time for QA in running the automated tests.
        • Helped with DevOps: we moved the formal approval from the email to the system and allowed the approver to actually push the button for the production deployments.
        • Biggest positive impact of using Bamboo is that it improved our response time to customers and increased the frequency of our deliveries to them.

        • TriNet has caused frustration in not being able to have all our information in one place (no ability to upload data) and costs are high for ancillary services (AAP for example).
        • TriNet has given us access back to Jackson Lewis, a trusted resource for Employment Law.
