Barracuda Essentials vs. Trend Micro Email Security

The Barracuda Essentials solution is definitely a great alternative to network security and especially corporate email to prevent employees from clicking on malicious links, spam, phishing, trojans and ransonware. The solution today is implemented in almost all sectors of the company and we have control of everything and good protection guaranteeing principles of compliance and security.

PRO: all companies that need an antispam, antivirus. It should not be activated if it is not possible to deactivate the anti-spam provided by the provider.
you have to check the in/out of the mail a few days to verify false positives and manage the rules.
CONS: It is too expensive for small companies, it's better to use services offered by the mail provider.

• Encryption is always on. There's NO way to turn it off so false encryption leads to real issues. Many banks and other companies cannot read/accept encrypted email. There should be a "Do Not Encrypt" type of keyword to prevent encryption (competing products have this).
• There's no indication an email was encrypted (like with Proofpoint or ZIX mail).
• MSP management interface needs work. You have to request licenses by email and wait. Pretty archaic today. Most competing product sites let MSP's increase/decrease licensing as needed, immediately.

• It would be great if there was a structure where users would approve or rate their own mails.
• Outlook add-in would be nice.

Its the best email security gateway product I have used.

The product really does everything it can and offers it very simply. In other words, after using it for many years like us, it feels as if the email system could not exist without Trend Micro Email Security. Using email in a corporate structure without this or any other product is the job of brave people.

Barracuda Essentials is simple to use. It has a user dashboard that is simple to navigate even for those who have few computer skills. One can barely realize that the program is even running in the background heading off those emails that can cause damage to my computer or our overall system.

Overall, Trend Micro Email Security does what is designed to do, however, it can be a bit frustrating tweaking the policies to get them just right due to the vagueness of some of the levels of protection available for some of the features (e.g., scales that range from "Low" to "Highest")

This is the best tool in the industry. It provides the best support on top of the product. If one has any trouble configuring things or troubleshooting things, Barracuda's support is renowned for resolving bugs and issues as well as assisting troubleshooting and fixing issues. I would highly recommend it as it covers all email security bases.

As a reseller, it can be difficult to locate the appropriate support number to call, however, once a case has been opened for a support request, it is generally resolved fairly quickly.

Barracuda Essentials has a far easier admin pannel than is provided by mimecast along with far more filtering options such as dkim. Much easier to do the initial setup along with much better support provided. Barracuda Essentials has Advanced threat protection that uses AI to spot patterns and gives you the option to remove a suspect email from all inboxs

I think Trend Micro Email Security gave us the best price along with the best overall features. We felt more comfortable using the Email Security along with the other Trend Micro products. It keeps our environment safe and has been a great way to help our end users through email issues. I would defiantly recommend this Trend Micro Email Security product to IT professionals a like.
