Barracuda Web Application Firewall vs. F5 Big-IP Advanced Web Application Firewall

Easy to use and reliable, with very little maintenance required and zero downtime to date. For the education sector, ease of use is hugely important as IT Managers/Technicians are often "Jack of all trades" with a good, broad general knowledge but perhaps lacking specific expertise in certain aspects. Being provided with easy-to-follow tutorials and instructions has been very useful in setting up and configuring the firewall, especially as my background is more in desktop support.

Advanced WAF is well suited for protection against account enumeration attacks, protection against known and new increasing attack vectors through out of the box attack signatures and threat campaigns. Also, up to date and accurate IP intelligence database to block based on known IP reputation.

• So the product definitely is helping us for sudden attacks through DDOS, some injection ingestion into UI URLs, and definitely it's capturing those and I definitely see that as an advantage for us. They can stop the hackers from using our endpoints.

• I'd like to see the licensing model streamlined instead of having this, plus, plus this, plus this to get a working product. I had to go back to the sales team several different times to get a fully deployed product.

The Barracuda Web Application Firewall is easy to use. Support from Barracuda is great also. Load Balancing of the Web Application Firewall is also nice. This allows you to do maintenance or have large loads for the end-user. Threat monitoring of our network and traffic coming into our services within our cloud solution.

We have used SonicWalls and WatchGuard firewall appliances neither are even remotely close to the Barracuda Web Application Firewall. In addition, Barracuda support is fantastic. Throw in the 4 year (free) refresh cycle and there is no reason we would even consider the other two again (at least for the foreseeable future).

AWAF provides most complete web application and API protection; including L7 DoS; in custimer's multi cloud deployments whether on-premises, public cloud, private cloud, etc.

• Negative impact: a default port was open and missed by one of our techs.
• Positive impact: it protects us everyday now that we have it locked down.

• This has been good overall. It has a positive impact on the security of our applications. I don't have necessarily a measurement on ROI, but it definitely definitely added to the security of our products.
