Barracuda RMM (formerly Managed Workplace)

With a lot of fine-tuning, it works very well to keep the Tier 2 team aware of almost any variable of interest of notification from your servers. You can automate scripts to deploy based on these events. It's cut down the amount of time spent digging around for answers or sifting through logs. Software deployment could use a lot of work for simplicity. We opted for other apps to accomplish this. The helpdesk function may work for those needing something basic, but again, we opted for a full ITSM based on ITIL. It works well for Remote Desktop Support, even for support on the fly for those who don't have the Premium Desktop app installed.

SolarWinds Pingdom

If you are looking to take your page speed optimization to the next level, Pingdom is a great tool. It is very valuable at helping to identify issues, benchmark your pefromance and check to see the results of your optimization efforts. If you aren't using other uptime alert and server monitoring tools, those features will be very beneficial

  • Very good reporting. We provide monthly reports to our customers on remote access, patching, etc.
  • Multiple methods of remote access. This is helpful because different scenarios require different remote access methods.
  • The site is easy to navigate/manage. There is not a big learning curve for new employees.

  • Monitoring as many websites as we can throw at it.
  • Customer Service has been extremely great with quick responses and resolution.
  • The ability to integrate with our chat client or via web hook with allows for maximum visibility amongst team members.

  • Sometimes when using Premium Remote it says that the wrong password was entered but the password is auto-filled by the program, not the user.

SolarWinds Pingdom

  • An easy way to update a mass group of alerts instead of one-by-one edits
  • Our less IT-oriented teams sometimes have a hard time understanding what the alerts mean, but that is a user education issue we should probably address ourselves to better explain purposes of alerts.

Recently added features have made Pingdom less intuitive for our requirements. While Pingdom has a broad offering and remains a good value, it is becoming more than we need. Our customer base is becoming more and more global and Pingdom still lacks Asia-Pacific monitoring, which we will need within a year.

Usability is good. Portability is also good. I am able to place this on various VMs in the DC and use that to help determine what areas to concentrate on. It also helps to find issues prior to a window that I can identify as not being part of the work to be performed and that the customer needs to address.

AVG Managed Workplace has more tools and features. The pre-existing templates and alerts are working properly while Continuum does not even provide service like that. There are some specific tools to work with and they are super easy to complete the task, for example, you can show what was replaced for your client. You can do it with others and even with Excel, but with table grid view mode of AVG will help you to do it more easily.

You don't want to get a call from a client or customer that your site is down, or lose sales if it brings in sales to you.You get recommendations on how to enhance the page performance, breakdown of content type for the page, requests by domain, file requests, everything

  • Excellent site monitoring allowing us to take necessary steps instantly to address outage or downtimes, thus keeping steady up time for our website customers
  • Detailed enough to get reasons of outages, which then lets us liaise with 3rd parties if necessary and to even get compensations in the event of missing SLAs
  • Negative: we still need to rely on our technical team to understand the reports from Pingdom
