If I want to set up a meeting and not have to explain how to join, and I just want them to click and sign-on, BlueJeans is what I would use. I would not use it if I had a ton of screen shares and breakout rooms.

Webex Meetings

It is well suited for scenarios where you are trying to communicate and collaborate with multiple colleagues at the same time who are located in multiple places and in multiple time zones. It is perfect for conducting online trainings and presentations as you can do screen shares and have an endless number of attendees call in to participate. It is less appropriate for a document sharing tool

Pros

BlueJeans

  • Connection is Easy: I have used other similar platforms where connecting to a meeting was not always intuitive, making it a frustrating process.
  • Recording: I like that I can set a meeting to auto-record because I often will forget that the meeting is to be recorded. I also appreciate that BlueJeans sends a link to the recording almost immediately after the web meeting is over.
  • Share Screen: I often need to share my screen during a meeting, and I like that this feature is easy to use and thus far has been reliable.

Webex Meetings

  • Webex was easily accessible throughout the org for meetings - the integration with Outlook was pretty good.
  • Webex did a good job with screen sharing and the standard webconference (non-audio) features.
  • The Webex app was not insignificant. I used it on an iphone as a supplement and it was very useful.

Cons

BlueJeans

  • Reliability is the biggest challenge I see with BlueJeans. There are times when BlueJeans seems to handle the demands of a big company seamlessly, but then there are other times when BlueJeans runs into issues that I've seen affect entire offices for extended periods of time which creates a challenge for the teams who depend on BlueJeans to effectively run their remote meetings. While in the grand scheme of things, these outages have been few and far between, when they happen people aren't able to start their BlueJeans meetings and have to scramble for an alternate way to meet (while attendees are simultaneously having issues trying to dial into the BlueJeans meeting).
  • Aside from the occasional outage, the quality of the video and audio is pretty solid. With variables that are likely outside of the BlueJeans product (office connectivity, bandwidth issues, internal routing) there are times where BlueJeans would either lag or echo which would either impact the output for the host of the meeting (who likely has a room full of participants) or multiple attendees. It would be great to see BlueJeans enhance their packet handling in these cases to prioritize audio over video (and perhaps auto-adjust video quality when there are bandwidth issues).

Webex Meetings

  • Integration with a company's teleconference system is not always smooth. If it were up to me, I'd only allow VoIP through the Webex Meetings for audio.
  • For new Webex host users, the learning curve can be steep since there are many features that the host needs to be sure to configure and know how to control.
  • The user interface has changed quite a bit throughout the years. I feel in the last few years the colors and arrangements have made it more difficult to find things in the Webex Meeting's window and panels.
  • Sometimes attendees are joining from their company which has specific desktop restrictions that may make joining the meeting not intuitive for the users. It would help if they could detect that and make it more intuitive for the user to know they should run the stand-alone temporary exe file, for example.

We are heavily invested in another platform. However the features are not quite the same as BlueJeans. If they do become more like BlueJeans (especially the video sharing), then our need for BlueJeans would significantly decrease. An even better option would be if they bought BlueJeans...

I don't have much experience of joining a meeting from an attendee of someone else's. As for joining a meeting I've created, it's very easy. For recurring meetings, I find the meeting in my list, and if it's near the time to start, there will be a "Join" button, and I just push that. After that, it gives me the options for joining -- video, audio, phone, screen share only. It remembers my previous choices, so mostly I just can click by that. As for attendees joining, there do seem to be connection problems from time to time and people have to log off and come back on, but we had that trouble with GoToMeeting also. Being able to mute attendees is much better in BlueJeans. When we had GoToMeeting, I constantly had problems with people joining by phone incorrectly, such that they didn't even show up in the meeting list and thus I couldn't mute them when needed.

It's extremely easy to learn how to use the WebEx Meetings platform. All attendees have to do is join the meeting and then they'll see the presenters screen. Presenters just have to learn how to share their desktop, documents and videos and how to add additional presenters if need be

The fact that I normally get a response within the hour to my tickets, and can reach out to our rep via slack during normal business hours has been great. this has been far above what we have gotten from other vendors and has really made the transition a lot easier

It's just easy to speak to someone in Webex support and get answers to your problems. The system is so intuitive a new user becomes an expert by the end of the first call. The help sections answer pretty much everything I have ever asked and only really needed to contact support once which was a seamless interaction.

With the exception of a few hiccups we had a pretty good experience rolling out bluejeans. user adoption was really quick as it integrated into their gsuite, and we pushed the chrome extension via google admin and the desktop app via JAMF. the training ahead of the rollout provided by bluejeans was kinda boring and pretty unnecessary as the system is very easy to use, and most users opted to skip the training

That we needed complex implementation that we didn't get tells me 2 things: 1) the product was not designed in a way that "just worked" like some of its peers (Zoom / BlueJeans) and 2) had our company defined actual user needs and validated / verified that they had bought something that matched those, we would have pursued features / designs more closely aligned with what the product actually does: screen share, sometimes video, definitely VOIP audio (always an option regardless of license), and easy recording and retrieval of meetings.

Alternatives Considered

BlueJeans

In its initial release, BlueJeans brought features to the video conference spectrum that were very cutting edge and attractive. Over the years, other video conferencing apps have taken features from others and made it their own. As a whole (and especially now with having been with WebEx at my previous company and loathing it and converting to BlueJeans and then coming over to my current role with BlueJeans and recently going to WebEx), I will say BlueJeans has more user intuitive design and feature aspects

Return on Investment

BlueJeans

  • Reduced the amount of business travel to locaised meetings. This has grown as the adoption and expectation that people use video within the calls.
  • Reduction in overall cost as multiple legacy solutions have been removed and now any member of staff can host or attend a meeting without the consideration for capacity.
  • Enhanced company-wide meetings, the ability for our sales folk to connect from a mobile and see our CEO in monthly meetings is fantastic.
Kenny Thornton | TrustRadius Reviewer

Webex Meetings

  • Ability for multiple countries to communicate in an efficient manner to accommodate business needs.
  • Ability to provide web training to staff working remotely or staff who are not able to travel can still participate in meetings which saves money on travel expenses.
  • Ability to provide clients with a clear, accurate presentation over a live web session which again saves money on travel expenses.
  • One minor impact is that some competitors are less costly.
