IBM Tivoli Netcool Configuration Manager provides network device discovery, configuration management and compliance. It helps network managers automate configuration changes and check for compliance across the network.
Lets you run more effective CABs with accurate configuration and dependency data. Understand the impact of change on other assets applications and services. Detecting potential underlying issues [when multiple] changes are made. Provides very adaptable and highly reliable data quality and integrity engines configured through rules [to] ensure normalization, data source prioritization, and deduplication.
This is the best tool for monitoring purpose. We can associate Control-M with this tool(Netcool) for monitoring any activity on Control-M ( Like the jobs which got failed, the long running jobs, jobs that are not started yet, the node down alerts etc.) We can also link it with the drives to get the warning alerts on drive memory status. We receive a critical alert whenever C drive is more than 90% used. Likewise in other drives also.
This is one of the essential monitoring tool i have ever used before.
The best feature is its color code as per the priority. Black color alert - Extremely critical(P1), Red color alert- Critical(P2), Yellow color alerts- Major alerts(P3), Orange Color alert- Minor alerts(P4)
We receive a heart beat alert every hour to know whether the tool is working fine or not. This is the best function of this tool.
There is no additional training is required to use this tool as its coloring feature of the alerts make it more easy for the users.
Once you have an understanding of the many use cases that this software can meet, you will be able to tightly integrate this into a ticketing system which increases the ROI of the product tremendously.
I didn't even know there was competion with BMC Atrium CMDB. I have been in the tech industry for sixteen plus years and I have never seen another product accomplish the task that BMC Atrium CMDB performs on a daily basis. Also BMC Atrium CMDB has been around longer than anyother product which means it has been tested over time.
We have used the other monitoring tool as well like the monitoring tool associated with the Control-M itself but it not even close to the Netcool's features. In Control-M monitoring console we receive the only alerts which is associated to the unusual activity on the Control-M(Like job failure, long running job, jobs which are not started on its schedule time etc.) but in Netcool console we have diverse range of monitoring like drives notification, unusual activity on Control-M etc
Moving towards a fully chargeback model would help non-IT departments help curb their spend. However, a company needs to be fully mature in order to do this. Without an iron tight process, the CMDB will be quickly filled with garbage. It'll require experienced asset admins to continuously monitor the system.
This tool makes the work more easy and transparent. We can monitor the whole by this tool.
This tool has best features like color coding as per the severity of the alert like P1, P2,P3 having the different color code.
Since, this tool is actually based on the color coding, it requires no additional training for the new users.
Its heart beat alert notification in every hour makes it more user friendly. This alert we receive every hour to know whether the tool is working fine or not.
A very user friendly and an essential monitoring tool.
