Bullhorn Recruitment CRM

Bullhorn is only appropriate for staffing/recruiting agencies, or internal corporate recruiters. It is made to track jobs, candidates, placements, and is not well suited for any other scenario. Bullhorn integrates with other, more robust software for sales and leads gen, but itself is not a sales or lead gen tool. Bullhorn works best when you integrate with the other services you're already using, like your background screening vendor, phone service, or other analytics tools.

Pros

  • Inhaling resumes from Word documents - field mapping is about 80+% accurate and will check for duplicates before savings.
  • Adding notes is very easy and can be categorized based on the type of interaction it is: email, text, phone call, etc.
  • Integrations with many 3rd party vendors that are already widely used by recruiting and staffing agencies.

Cons

  • Reporting: out of the box reporting is not very detailed or easy to navigate. In order to get better detailed and specific reports, you either need their Canvas product or pay for a 3rd party vendor.
  • Customization: will get better with NOVO Experience update, but many users still don't have it. Right now many fields and order are not customizable
  • Many features Bullhorn can do are not apparent to the user, often times you have to call in the figure things out.

We have about 2 years left on our current contract; It would take a major change in the ATS marketplace for us to strongly consider opting out of renewal given the time and effort we have dedicated to building our our Bullhorn system. I will take the time to revisit with some of the competition down the road, but Bullhorn acquired our runner up, MaxHire, about a year back and continues to offer a solid product suite for our current and future needs.

Bullhorn really works for me and what I do. I can move through full desk recruiting and use it to both market to clients as well as recruit candidates. Overall, it has helped to keep my business on track and to evaluate how well I am doing and to track effectively

They don't care, they want you off the phone, and you have to talk to multiple people where you repeat your problem again and again before they tell you they will call you back. They never will call you back, so you'll call the next day & repeat the cycle until you finally shame someone into fixing your problem or threaten them with legal action due to breach of contract.

Alternatives Considered

I used PCR for about 6 years and became a master at managing it and cleaning data from within. I had almost total control over everything. With Bullhorn, it's different since much higher level operations are either hidden or inaccessible to the average user. PCR was easier to manipulate, and you are able to essentially use it for free if you host it on your server. I did not choose Bullhorn at my current company, it was already implemented before I joined.

Return on Investment

  • It's really the only ATS to use, not only because they're the biggest (they also keep buying smaller software companies), but also because of all their integrations.
