Carbonite Safe is a personal cloud backup solution offered on pricing tiers to backup a single computer to multiple computers, to an insfrastructure consisting of endpoints and servers. Users of the former Mozy product (an online data backup service which allows users to back up their hard drive and, in the event of a computer catastrophe, perform a full restore of all files) are migrated to Carbonite Safe. Mozy was acquired by Carbonite from Dell in March 2018.

Mozy Pro is a great fit, especially for small businesses that don't want to pursue a very large number of licenses, and don't have many TB of data to backup. The price per user is reasonable, and well within the budget of smaller businesses needing workstation backup solutions. For larger enterprises, there are other products that provide a lot more storage and better performance. We found Code42's product to be better for larger data backup needs.

[Google Cloud Storage is] great for storing and playing large video files, and even sharing them securely with others, whether or not they are part of your organization. No need to download video files before watching, and can also be used to store any other kinds of files.

Pros
Carbonite, an OpenText company
  • Performance Settings: Mozy can be configured to run very smoothly in the background with minimal performance degradation. It provides network bandwidth throttling, backup speed, and backing up only when idle option. From my own experience I usually do not notice any performance degradation when Mozy is running. Of course a good network or Internet connection is vital.
  • Restore: file restoration is simple and intuitive. The user can restore logical backup sets (e.g. all photos) or file based (select the folder or file you want restored). Files and folders can be restored with the latest version or earlier version. Rename and overwrite options provide further flexibility.
  • Sync: with Mozy you can sync file across multiple devices including mobile. Access to your corporate files via smart phone is a secure manner is very useful.

  • Really great, easy to use interface helps us manage files easily. Storage is fast and inexpensive, so we don't have to spin up storage instances locally
  • Great set of command-line tools to manage data and storage options via scripts and apps, as well as an SDK means we can build GCS into our orchestration and operations tools
  • Robust integration with other Google cloud tools means that we don't have to think too hard about using GCS for a variety of storage tasks as we interact with other Google services.

Cons
Carbonite, an OpenText company
  • I would like to see backups for programs that I have installed on my machine. For instance I use Adobe CS6 and MS Office among other things. Instead of having to reinstall all these programs on my new machine, I would love for Mozy to be able to save the programs somehow and I can restore them as they were on the old machine with the same almost one-click process that I use to restore files. Basically like Time Machine, but for Windows.

  • Currently can't delete folders which means there are cluttered folders on my cloud.
  • Easier upload options would be nice. The ability to upload and store other file types with an easier interface.
  • Managing files and storage could be improved a little for easier access and editing.

For the clients we have using this service, we fully plan to renew the subscription. However, that may change as our client's business grows and they have a need to add visualization and other server types to their environment

after all of the investment made in the tool and considering how many teams use it I think we would not be likely to move away from this tool. A lot of our information including historical is already here and we are happy with the capabilities of the tool currently

For performance i give Google Cloud Storage 10 of 10 on performance because even though there are other softwares that do exactly the same thing as Google Drive, it still works exceptionally well. It is very fast, and and far as integration, the only software I have used with it that integrated was Google Docs, and of course it integrates perfectly.

I usually find what I need to know by looking in the Carbonite knowledge base online. We haven't had any major problems, usually we just need clarification on a point or more details about a feature so we look it up. We haven't had to call in for help in quite awhile.

We have never used official support from Google for our Google Cloud Storage, but there is plenty of documentation in place already. With a small amount of work, anybody should be able to get started. Once needs get more complicated, there is still documentation from Google, but also plenty of community support for common use cases around the internet.

overall I was not directly involved but hears the teams were satisfied with the implementation. the teams that used the tool did not encounter major issues, it was as expected with minor issues and bugs that were resolved later. The more significant learning curve was actually starting to use the tool

Carbonite Safe is a great solution for startup entities. It ranks nicely with Acronis and Carbonite Server Backup. Carbonite Safe is very good for backing up workstations including home computers. This is a good solution for home office users. Acronis does image level backups better than Mozy / Carbonite Safe whereas Barracuda Backup is a much more expensive (but worthwhile) investment. Barracuda Backup includes a physical BDR appliance.

We prefer Google Cloud Storage over Amazon Web Services because of the tools and code integration offered by Google Cloud Storage. We found the Google Cloud Storage toolset to be highly usable and give us the fine-grained control we need for managing digital assets. Ultimately, we chose Google Cloud Storage because we found the API and suitability for code integration with our Java codebase to be impeccable and because we had excellent direct support from the Google Cloud Storage team

  • Mozy is very affordable and pricing is very flexible and easy to add more space when needed. This allows us to only pay for what we need.
  • Having our critical files protected is the most important thing. The fact that it doesn't cost much for us to do that is just a bonus.

Google
  • It has assisted greatly with our ability to share documents/information cross functionally. Especially within our advertising team, we store a large amount of information to assist new hires and refresh current employees.
  • Something that could improve is employees' understanding of how to best utilize Google Cloud Storage. This could improve by implementing a potential training video or tutorial.
  • Overall, Google Storage has been great. I have not used a similar storage product that had the same enterprise level capabilities.
