    Celoxis

Celoxis is a great option if you are looking for an affordable, easy to use, easy to integrate project manegement solution. It is very powerful for waterfall project management. I evaluated more than 15 platforms and could not find any with a close evaluation in terms of cost-benefit to Celoxis. Of course there are more powerfull tools, for 10 times the price. So far, for project management, there hasn't been a requirement I haven't been able to solve with some work.It really lacks features for Agile methodologies, even if it provides a Kanban view, so far it doesn't provide and additional agile artifacts. If an organization has already reached a very mature project management practice and needs to improve on program and portfolio management, Celoxis won't provide any useful feature. If the organization has the resources (skills and time mostly) to develop some workflows and customization, it might work but with a limit. Hopefully Celoxis addresses these features in the near future.

    Planview LeanKit

Planview LeanKit excels in any scenario where you need to visualize and organize work to be done. You can feasible even use it as a personal to-do application. We use it as a way to keep track of our current topics in management meetings as well as a Scrumban implementation of project management. However, when processes and work is very file- and data-heavy, using Planview LeanKit is less appropriate as there's just not way of doing a sensible file management.

    Pros

    Celoxis

    • Project planning
    • Time log
    • Efforts analysis vs plan
    Hanan Weisman | TrustRadius Reviewer

    Planview LeanKit

    • Ability to color code cards based on type, giving better visibility to the variety of tasks a team handles
    • Ability to set deadline dates and have those dates easily visible
    • Flexibility in design the kanban board. It is easy to add a lane or make a change on the fly. Work doesn't have to stop and a long process created to make simple layout changes.
    • Movement of cards is easy as well as the ability to connect cards to show dependencies.

    Cons

    Celoxis

    • Support is at times slow to respond.
    • Not new user-friendly.
    • Not able to pull in closer or zoom the interface.

    Planview LeanKit

    • The formatting of what they call "cards" could be better. They can be clunky if you have a lot of text in just one.
    • Needs better support for media, attachments.
    • Not the most pretty interface in my opinion, though it works.

LeanKit isn't the best designed Kanban system I've seen, but overall it's pretty usable. The boards I've used are pretty complex, so it can be difficult to find things. I found that searching and filtering for specific cards was somewhat of a challenge. Dragging a card from one lane to another is kind of a fun way to get things done though.

    Celoxis

I used an evalaution matrix built with input of several stakeholders in the company. In the end the matrix included 100 features (non of them was price related). The matrix was heavily focused on waterfall project management, agile related features were only 5 out of 100 features. Features were labeled as mandatory, required or optional. Products which lacked a mandatory feature (like providing technical support) were disqualified. Then a price vs features evaluation was made and only the products with the best combination were seleced to continue: Celoxis, ITM Platform and Mission Control. A final technical evaluation was made comparing the full evaluation but also the evaluation of only the 40 required features. Overall, Celoxis was the better evaluated (76% vs 65% of the second place), for the 40 required features, Celoxis got 91% against 78% of number 2. In the end we chose Celoxis even when it had higher licensing cost.

I think that LeanKit is very similar to Asana's Kanban feature and Trello, but is much less sleek looking than Asana. Asana's clean and sleek UI makes me enjoy project management much more than LeanKit. It might sound silly that the UI makes so much of a difference to me, but it really does. Trello is also sleeker than LeanKit, but I still prefer Asana because it has more customization options and a better interface. We are actually going to look into switching to ClickUp because we wanted something with a better UI. ClickUp seems to have a great UI with a lot of customization options.

    • Our team meetings are more direct and quick to get through thanks to the better visibility of the workload
    • Easily being able to move cards between team lanes gives instant visibility to where the responsibility for the next step is needed.
