CenturyLink Public Cloud

I believe for small to mid business application hosting Centurylink provides an adequate service. When moving to larger scale business enviornments I believe the limitations, slowness is going to become a problem

Sungard AS Managed Hosting

When shared with multiple teams, I could not find many products better than this. I enjoyed working in this aspect, it was smooth in cross-teams transferring. They have a good foundation of technology I would say, the thing it is lacking is in the usability for non-technical people. I have seen many struggling with this aspect.

Pros

CenturyLink Public Cloud

  • Offloading the requirements for hosting apps in house - cost savings
  • Access ability - users could access documents and programs from anywhere
  • Collaborative work ability - multiple users could work within the same enviornment

Sungard AS Managed Hosting

  • Security - no-one can access your systems, even you!

Cons

CenturyLink Public Cloud

  • Perhaps ease of use - it's not convoluted but a little more streamlined of an interface would be great
  • Make your presence more known - in a world of heavily advertised cloud options CenturyLink is not at the top of the pile and I think it may be due to a lack of awareness in the business community. Advertise!
  • Streamline functionality - interface can be a little slow at times.

Sungard AS Managed Hosting

  • I needed support for many modules, where I think I was not satisfied.
  • The detailing of each module is lacking.
  • If you form clutter of files, there is no solution for it.

Support is completely inflexible in their policies and procedures, turning even the simplest request into a months-long ordeal.

Alternatives Considered

CenturyLink Public Cloud

I did not select the application hosting environment - I was a user. That being said I do not have much of a voice in the difference between hosted services that I have experienced.

Sungard AS Managed Hosting

I would select Sungard on the basis of technology foundation and functionality. It gave me an ample amount of features which I could use in a better way. The inter-team communication gets a better structure than the other products. I would use it on the basis of the above mentioned points. This has proven to be a good support for my team.
