Cisco Aironet 1570 Series Access Points

Due to its software, it can fit in any outdoor deployment or requirement. It has POE Out port, Various Antenna selection, various powering option, GPS, Industrial rigid design (coming from a very hot and humid area), SFP compatible.
You can deploy this AP nearly on any use case you face, I have a successful deployment of 400m distance between two of them as a MESH and it has been running fine for the past 2 years on the beach, it's also providing wired connection to clients on the MESH side.
Some other use case is a WGB connected to a AirQuality sensor that has been up since day 1, with no problems whatsoever.

Cisco Mobility Express

With all that was said in the [Things Done Poorly] section, I believe [Cisco Mobility Express] has been extremely helpful in allowing me to complete my tasks at hand. I trust it. It's dependable. It's reliable. An excellent product to say the least. One which I'm glad we have on campus and one which I hope we maintain.

There is no other better option than this. It's the line between the commercial Cisco grade AP's and industrial ones.

I can not think of a scenario that I ran into an issue with an outage. As I said, sometimes it is difficult to gain access to the product in the morning hours (may take about 3-4 tries to get in). I've never experienced an unplanned outage. Once, you're on - you're on for about 7 hours (if not longer).

We have little network downtime, if any. The product works well for our company of 400 and we have very minimal issues that come up and most are fixable very quickly.

Initially I had a problem with the regulatory and channel selection, it was a bug on the AP as it was fairly new, solved by TAC on engineering release, and since then it has been performing flawlessly.

Alternatives Considered

Cisco Aironet 1570 Series Access Points

Making the decision to use Aironet is more related to the type of scenario that you have. We chose Aironet because we mainly manage all the network internally and already have Cisco products to integrate with Meraki which is a good option if you are starting from scratch.

We did not evaluate any other controlerless solutions, but we have received good feedback from multiple sources about Mobility Express and that's why we have selected it.

Return on Investment

Cisco Aironet 1570 Series Access Points

  • ROI pays off on the long term especially if you care about security and offering a good service to your users.
  • ROI also pays on terms of warranty and time of response especially if your users depend heavily on the network.
  • ROI also depends on the amount and type of users that you have. It's less likely to pay if you have few users.

Cisco Mobility Express

  • I can speak for myself, the product has worked well that each employee is able to work from an on-campus setting to an off-campus setting without restrictions
  • The way we set up the campus schedule is one item which we need to have done right - this product helps us when students are deciding upon which courses to take.
  • Accuracy is one thing which my employer is after, this always me to be as accurate as possible
