Cisco Cloud Email Security

We have multiple locations (both official and non-official/remote work location/work from home sections) that heavily benefit from the protection that Cisco Cloud Email Security provides. We are confident that in the case the local effects this pandemic is further prolonged in certain areas ([lock downs], quarantines, and so on), we can easily (and prefer) and safely allow our people to continue working from the comfort, and security of their chosen location.

FireEye Email Security

I would highly recommend FireEye Email Security to a colleague. The platform is good at eliminating malicious emails prior to delivery to the end-user. Detections exist across the URL, attachment, and embedded HTML levels. It is a strong platform.

Cons

Cisco Cloud Email Security

  • On certain client machines, we found that the software prevented the opening of innocuous email attachments flagging them as potentially harmful.
  • Emails with large attachment sizes can sometimes slow down the email loading process.

FireEye Email Security

  • The interface is not exactly intuitive.
  • There are a high number of false positives.
  • To my knowledge, there is not a way to whitelist links or attachments.

Usability

Cisco Cloud Email Security

Cisco Cloud Email Security 9.1

It's an essential component of of security in general, making the usability 10/10 for us given that as I've previously mentioned, most (if not all) of our workers are currently remote.

With this massive increase in "remote" locations, entails a massive increase in possible points of breach, hence, additional security is a must!

FireEye Email Security is the most effective email security solution for protecting enterprises from APT. It is not complicated to set up and you can ride a wave of continuous security effects for a long time without major changes after the initial setup. It's automated, so users don't have to care too much about it. In addition, it provides detailed analysis data, so you can utilize it for 3rd party solutions if you want.

Cisco TAC support is very good since they have engineers available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Important to mention that you must have the support of the solution enabled to be able to receive a response from TAC and that we can be taken care of. The only drawback may be that they will not be able to see settings of the email provider you use.

In the years we have had this service, we haven't needed much help (which is a testament to the ease of use/reliability of the product) but when we have they have been probably the best vendor I've ever dealt with when it comes to quickly addressing support call issues. We also have a very readily available engineer that has been quick to help with more complex requests.

Alternatives Considered

Cisco Cloud Email Security

Cisco was at least better than or equal to the others but within our budget. It provided all of the services of anti-spam, content filtering, anti-virus, DLP, encrypted email service, scalability, and more than the others. Cisco name and reputation were also key in our decision.

FireEye Email Security

There are a few things FireEye Email Security does better than ProofPoint and vice versa. For example, you would think blocking .html attachments would be trivial. FireEye Email Security can be configured to do it. Proofpoint can not, and if you try to configure it, HTML gets stripped from the email content, which has a major impact on the business. On the other hand, ProofPoint has a number of additional features and bells and whistles that FireEye Email Security does not.

Return on Investment

Cisco Cloud Email Security

  • Saves us precious resources by blocking unwanted E-mail right at the edge of our network.
  • Users can work more efficient when all spam and malware is stopped before reaching their inboxes.
  • Enables us to protect our outgoing mail with DKIM signing and validate all incoming mail on the most modern securiry standards.

FireEye Email Security

  • It's been positive in the sense that it has blocked some malicious email that would have otherwise made it to our users.
  • It has been negative in the sense that we spend a higher-than-expected number of cycles dealing with false positives.
  • Another negative is that we also experience false negatives.
