Cisco SD-WAN

Cisco SD-WAN has proven to be a very profitable and very proficient platform that is well suited for our organization. Apart from the less appropriation, the SD-WAN solution makes internet connections very protected and therefore, secure enough. It is also dependable by creating encrypted tunnels between every website in the SD-WAN for inter-branch and base office (headquarter) traffic. It takes beneficial aspects of SSL security enabled by the SaaS application for traffic going from the branch to the application.

Contentful

Contentful is well suited for folks who want a simple, clean, easy-to-use interface for a JAVASCRIPT website. If you do not want a javascript website you should look [elsewhere].

Pros

Cisco SD-WAN

  • Before Cisco SD-WAN, our users even struggled to send emails with Microsoft 365
  • Cloud applications, such as SharePoint, were not taking a long time to load and made it impossible to collaborate
  • Streaming services--even though video streaming does not work at desired levels, music streaming started to work without interruption

Contentful

  • Clean, modern interface (not clunky and outdated, like WordPress)
  • High degree of flexibility (I can structure data any way my clients need)
  • Enables headless frontend (i.e. I can build any frontend I want without having to change my CMS)

Cons

Cisco SD-WAN

  • The minimum subscription time is three years, which makes the initial investment of the projects more expensive.
  • The types of subscriptions that determine the accumulated bandwidth of the transport links generate a limitation to the additional solution that the hardware supports.
  • Access to the Vmanage administration console must be from a previously established IP address, which removes flexibility of access to the cloud.

Contentful

  • The new Contentful "branches" feature looked promising (it appears to mirror a git-like repository) but it requires the CLI, which isn't necessarily practical for teams that aren't current CLI users. It would be nice if the management of this feature were available via the UI (without that it causes more confusion than anything).
  • The Contentful data modeling method makes for a bit of an awkward SDK developer experience in some strongly typed languages like Java. Most things that you might need can be accomplished, but it feels like the experience could be smoother.
  • It would be nice if there were a way to migrate data between spaces (e.g. from your staging space to production).

Based on 21 answers
Since the Cisco SD-WAN tools are a part of Cisco’s broader portfolio of solutions, support cross-cuts to each of our deployed components, with our company as the customer having the ability to solve our problems through the same, approved infrastructure. Their support team easily satisfies the customer’s needs so that they continue to focus on business functions.

Alternatives Considered

Cisco SD-WAN

Cisco SD-WAN is the simplest to implement with graphical user interface full configuration. There [are] also many automated parts of [the] configuration, like tunnels configurations and routes propagation. Cisco also brings its SD-WAN solution as a complementary solution to users already using Cisco equipment like Meraki and Firepower firewalls. This could be an advantage also.

Contentful

Contentful offers a great deal of features for a relatively low price. This is what ended up persuading us to purchase it. We also gathered that this was one of the more well-rated products out there, which was encouraging. It definitely stacks up well against its competitors.

Return on Investment

Cisco SD-WAN

  • Very fast ROI - Primarily by switching existing circuits to direct internet (or reducing circuits and adding direct internet).
  • While saving money on circuits, the SD-WAN licensing is now another line item on operating expenses to keep track of.
  • SD-WAN licensing is a minimum 3-year contract. So not for short-term. However, licenses can be moved around between the hardware and purchased fairly quickly, so it's not like you will have a lot floating around on overhead.

Contentful

  • Positive: faster changes and new associates can easily navigate without prior training/knowledge of CMS to make content updates
  • Negative: Our website manager/provider can keep certain abilities (like changing specific images) so they can charge a fee for making the change
