Webex Meetings

For a meeting where participant size is large the platform really does well as the host has full control over the meeting. [You] can enable and disable audio of anyone based on [your] requirements. [They] can pass the host control for other members to share content and can create breakout sessions. There seem [to be] scenarios where the Cisco Webex Meetings are less suited. One scenario could be low-speed internet connectivity where the platform does not perform well.

Cons

Webex Meetings

  • Better integration with other platforms such as Panopto (currently only one video source can be saved instead of one explicit presenter and one explicit content window
  • Needs a bigger marketplace similar to Zoom
  • Virtual backgrounds needs improvement and should include motion backgrounds
  • Consolidate all the different products (Webex Meetings, Event, Training, Support centers) into one product
  • Allow fullscreen video of presenter video on secondary monitor

  • It would be great if the exams could have settings to set-up start and finish times.
  • The grade book still needs improvement in the formatting.

Cisco Webex Meetings is a platform that consistently performs well and outperforms some of the other solutions that we have used, such as Zoom. It is user friendly and helps our organization accomplish the goal of connecting with external contacts to conduct meetings and share information

Cisco Webex Meetings is a really easy-to-use solution. Cisco has a mentality linked to joining meetings: one button to push. There is always the same big green button that appears everywhere—on invitation emails, in the calendar, on videoconferencing devices, on the application in our phones and tablets. One button and the meeting is started. Anyone can start a meeting. The solution is therefore minimally demanding for IT teams, and even easy to set up and support for smaller environments where there simply isn't an IT team.

I gave a rating of 10 because every time I've needed to use Cisco Webex Meetings, it was available. I don't remember it ever being unavailable to me. Any updates or unplanned changes also occur when I first start the program right away so I don't have to worry if the program is out of date or un-secure of anything.

I have had a very reliable experience with Cisco Webex Meetings, but there have been a couple of instances where the platform has lagged:
  • During a Webex meeting when many are on video, the platform has struggled not to crash for everyone.
  • Sharing certain screens, for example when sharing my screen to show our project management software everything lags, but with other views it does not.
I have not had any issues with the integration with Outlook, as well as Skype. We are transitioning away from Skype but Webex works well.

The response time is very fast via email. Most of the time, they also follow-up with a call but I usually need my questions answered via email.I think their support emails are bit bland and impersonal. They may think it's a good idea to list all applicable managers in their emails but that's not really all the important to me. In fact seeing so many people listed makes me wonder if I'd have to contact someone else to get my question answered or problem resolved.

The initial rollout of Top Hat was not without its issues. Top Hat was very responsive, and even sent representatives to be onsite during the first couple of days of the start of class to help instructors and students. They were very knowledgeable about the product, but the sales team was pushy at times. At several times, we had to inform them not to reach out to instructors directly to pitch their service while we were still piloting.

We mostly use training from Cisco's online training programs which is very informative and can be easily incorporated into our daily schedules without disrupting our normal working activities. There are many online training materials are available on cisco's website as well as other third-party training companies may also provide additional training.

That we needed complex implementation that we didn't get tells me 2 things: 1) the product was not designed in a way that "just worked" like some of its peers (Zoom / BlueJeans) and 2) had our company defined actual user needs and validated / verified that they had bought something that matched those, we would have pursued features / designs more closely aligned with what the product actually does: screen share, sometimes video, definitely VOIP audio (always an option regardless of license), and easy recording and retrieval of meetings.

Alternatives Considered

Webex Meetings

Microsoft Teams has better integration with office 365 products like Outlook. Collaboration is better with MS teams since it also provides [the] ability to use SharePoint and teams' sites for documents. Cisco Webex Meetings seems to have better audio support via phone whereas audio quality over [the] internet seems to be better in MS Teams.

Return on Investment

Webex Meetings

  • Positively it definitely Less traveling expenses per person (it could have been 6k per year per person in Hotel, Airfare, meals)
  • We see each other more often than while in the office
  • Meetings are arrange more easily, in an ordered manner as well as make everyone be more punctual.

  • One of the better ways to track attendance in a mostly secure and automated way.
  • Promotes more active learning, especially in large classrooms.
  • Unpopular if students have to pay.
