Citrix Endpoint Management

This product is well suited for any healthcare organization, especially one privately owned by the providers. Many of our providers were displeased with our efforts to use a product that forced sandboxing of Exchange information. Therefore, we needed something that was flexible enough that sandboxing could be used where desired but still allowed native OS integration where necessary.

Workspace ONE Powered by AirWatch

Mobile device management, email management, content locker and workplace one feature like this AirWatch is one of the top solutions in enterprise mobility. Security and compliance, remotely data wiped and passcode protection and many more policies make AirWatch more trustworthy. There are some issues for AirWatch Inbox like applying compliance policies, compatibility with different flavors of Android make n model. AirWatch is releasing patches every quarter but it has bugs and they will try to resolve it in next patch but some issues are still pending since ages and no one has entertaining it now.

Pros

Citrix Endpoint Management

  • security: it allows remote wipe of a device
  • compartmentalization: when xenmobile is on the device, it can setup its own client, or have a set portion of the local mail client.
  • mobile support: with a web-based admin portal, no software needs to be setup on a PC to admin remotely [good for on-call techs]

Cons

Citrix Endpoint Management

  • issues with non apple, non samsung devices: if it is not setup with an apple or samsung phone, then the Certificate onboarding is a struggle/unable to be done.
  • user-pin setup: for a user to be onboarded, requiring a PIN; there is a self service way but it is clunky and users prefer to call in instead of trying to follow the 15 step process via PDF
  • if the certificate is ever lost, due to an upgrade via IOS or android, then the entire process [uninstall, reinstall] has to be done, which means downtime for the end user, and higher call volume when a service provider pushes an iOS update.

  • Admin console is cumbersome and has features poorly organized. Completing some simple tasks can take some searching.
  • Devices sometimes are randomly seen as "compromised" and need to be added. Users all reported not doing anything out of the ordinary. Has happened to approximately 7-10% of devices.
  • Devices must be "Supervised" to maximize features. Placing devices in "supervised" mode can only be done on a Apple computer.

We've used it for 3 years and our contract is up later this year. We own the licenses, but we would have to either renew cloud services or bring the services in-house and install on servers here. We may want to see what's new in the marketplace that could be just as useful and cost effective.

It works well for our environment and what we're using it for. It actually does more than we're currently utilizing, but I believe our needs will change in the near future and we could utilize more features.

Just in the past few weeks our staff has had several issues with the website. It is either taking a long time to load anything or we are not able to get in at all. This is very frustrating when you are trying to manage and enroll users. It was down 2 days in a row just this past week. Not good!

Went over the availability just a minute ago on the last rating. Don't use the reporting too much but will likely begin that soon. Integration with Active Directory doesn't seem to bog either system down.

They're usually very good. I've talked to any number of techs from level one to level 3. They all seem pretty knowledgeable about the product and how to support it.

Have your organizational structure and heirarchy outlined. This helps when you are ready to create OU's and subs in AirWatch.

Alternatives Considered

Citrix Endpoint Management

Xenmobile was just more flexible; allowing us to use different devices and change our active data sync. The cost of a Blackberry enterprise server was also prohibitive, so we moved to XxenMobile.

The AirWatch mindset has greatly shifted from the early days and now they are all about making things work and being efficient. VMware has spent tons of time and money in moving AirWatch forward

It is really scalable. They love to have more users as you pay by the license. They are great in this regard.

Return on Investment

Citrix Endpoint Management

  • We've moved from the Blackberry enterprise server to a xenmobile fueled active-data format. saving the cost of the BES and allowing us to be more flexible on devices.
  • We are moving away from providing devices to allowing employees to use personal devices [through XenMobile], saving us 3 million dollars a year [roughly].
  • Our call center has had increased call volume with mobile devices during the move, since the addition to more supported devices equals more time per call, we have seen a negative effect there.
