    IBM Cloud Object Storage

File recovering and easy data management from various cloud storage systems and the cost-effective capability on this IBM platform are excellent. Security on the system for the multiple data that are handled through the platform is excellent and the user can easily access any needed data from the cloud and provide useful data reports as well as excellent real-time data analytics.

    OneDrive

    • For collaborative work both in education and professional areas.
    • For personal work in multiple devices, and "on the go" work.
    • It's great for work that takes a lot of memory space, because it is saved in the cloud, not the device itself.
    • It's a great tool for anyone working with a lot of creative files that can't be stored in small devices like USBs.

    Pros

    IBM Cloud Object Storage

    • Cloud storage allows you to save data and files in an off-site location that you access either through the public internet or a dedicated private network connection.
    • Cloud storage delivers a cost-effective, scalable alternative to storing files on on-premise hard drives or storage networks.
    • Cloud storage services provide elasticity, which means you can scale capacity as your data volumes increase or dial down capacity if necessary.
    • Business continuity of Storing data offsite supports business continuity in the event that a natural disaster or terrorist attack cuts access to your premises.
    Frason Francis | TrustRadius Reviewer

    OneDrive

    • OneDrive is a multiplatform solution so that we can access files from the device of our choice.
    • With OneDrive, workgroups can centrally view data, avoiding file loss and disruption to multiple employees.
    • By organizing work groups, users may create dedicated directories for their department. This ensures that all descriptions of details, including documentation or multimedia files, are transparent, organized, and stored directly in public-access folders.

    Cons

    IBM Cloud Object Storage

    • Unexpected errors are known to occur when downloading/uploading files.
    • Not easy to get started. In order to take full advantage of the platform and its features, additional training and reading documentation is needed.
    • The UI of the platform can get a bit confusing and it's easy to get lost.

    OneDrive

    • I wish OneDrive would allow you to sync multiple personal/individual accounts to your computer. At this time, you can only sync one account at a time. That means that my personal OneDrive and individual corporate OneDrive can't be synced to my computer at the same time.
    • OneDrive has a file size limitation of 15 GB. I know that that is a very large amount, but I have several files that are larger than 15 GB that I wish I could get to sync. I'm hoping that file size limitation changes in the future.

Due to its tight integration into the Microsoft ecosystem and its bundling into the Office 365 service, continued use of the product is all but guaranteed. Unless there's a shift away from Microsoft, I can see no competing product offering the same ease of use and integrations taking the place of OneDrive

Using OneDrive is very intuitive and has been improved over the years. It's just like using native file management on either your Mac or PC. It's drag and drop functionality is easy and it clearly shows when files are uploaded to the cloud or if there are errors

I have been working in IT sector for more than 15 years. I have worked with various vendors. IBM's sales team, support team have been really helpful. After we start to use their product, their UX design team also contacted us to get feedback from us. They are really interested about our experience.

It's a Microsoft product so there is a wealth of information online both from Microsoft directly and from millions of users but as a corporate user we also have access to direct Microsoft support through a variety of avenues (phone, email, etc.). This makes finding answers to issues more accessible, however, it does also mean that any new feature requests will get buried.

I just researching and applying the tools on their platforms to ensure a good learning path, based on my needs. Reading the documentation related with resources, tools. Is too big, but I am trying to know more about it every day. It is a good way to know more about their resources. A new way to attract new customers. At the end of the day, we are all involved in improvement and automation of our tasks and resources for customers and end-users.

IBM's professional service for migrating data and implementing new cloud environment was perfect. They started to help us before we begin to bring together all data such as how can it could be best to transfer all data without problems. During the migration they watched all the process closely to prevent any failure. Lastly, after the migration, they gave us trainings on implementation.

    Alternatives Considered

    IBM Cloud Object Storage

I consider that it is easy to learn, intuitive, easy to administer, has high data handling capacity, satisfactory performance in large volumes of records

    OneDrive

Box is another file-sharing application that is very similar to OneDrive. Box falls short of OneDrive in its syncing capabilities. OneDrive is very quick with syncing so you never have to be concerned that you are not using the most up-to-date materials. Box was always a bit delayed and did not always accurately sync across systems. OneDrive benefits from being backed by Microsoft, so you expect the connection across applications that it allows. OneDrive also provides consistency for use and intuitive understanding because of that Microsoft consistency. I'd prefer OneDrive over Box.

    Return on Investment

    IBM Cloud Object Storage

    • This allows us to recommend a platform to our clients that will quickly help them create new, efficient business processes with very little development.
    • This saves clients hours and days of manual analysis of images, allowing the system to do the work when attaching Object Storage to models.
    • There is a learning curve in utilizing the storage and the modeling, but once up and running, it works well during deployment.

    OneDrive

    • We have seen some productivity gains for those team members that are fully utilizing the full MS Office suite, including Microsoft project. Having a more fully-integrated knowledge- and project-management solution is a vast efficiency improvement.
    • We are also able to more effectively collaborate with external partners, by granting access to specific folders within our document repository.
    • We are able to more effectively collaborate internally with these fine-grained access controls as well, whereas previously an entirely separate dropbox area was needed for sensitive documents (budgets, salary information, W-9s, contracts, etc)
    • Some permissions issues (bugs where subfolders don't inherit permissions appropriately) occasionally cause loss of trust in the product with some team members, causing them to fall back to other tools and fragmenting our document repository.
