Comodo Antivirus

Comodo Antivirus seems to be very cost-effective and capable, but if someone was particular about certain things, I think they could be disappointed. You could pay a lot more for a bigger brand and get a little better customization options. It works for us who don't have any internal custom apps anymore. When we did, one that used command-line functions that called other programs and resources on the network, everything about it was rightly being flagged. Since we got away from having a program that could resemble one a hacker uses, we have had very limited issues. We had to just turn containment off because it was too much of a hassle to figure out how to get all of the different parts white-listed.

Malwarebytes Endpoint Protection

This software is doing an excellent job. The management console and low overhead on the end-user computer is a big plus. You can buy the licenses in packs. The software is a bit pricey, so if you are on a tight budget then you need to look for a different solution.

Pros

Comodo Antivirus

  • Automatic containment of suspicious programs
  • Centrally managed whitelist options

Malwarebytes Endpoint Protection

  • Anti-ransomware; the rollback feature, and the ability to stop ransomware in it's tracks would be highly valuable in the event of a ransomware infection reaching a machine. It can block a machine from communicating on the network, prevent the infection from modifying any more files, and allows for a full machine rollback to prior to the infection if required.
  • The management console gives you a lot of information on the target machine, including general asset details, as well as infection details. It also has very effective remote management and remediation tools.

Cons

Comodo Antivirus

  • Whitelisting could be more customizable.
  • We were getting a lot of false positives for Windows updates and other widely used applications, but, then, they seemed to fix that problem.

Malwarebytes Endpoint Protection

  • I would like to see Malwarebytes Endpoint Protection create the ability to setup other admins of the system with restrictive access to only review items, but not be able to deploy machines or change the policies.
  • There is an area in the admin center when you are reviewing deployed machines. You are unable to sort or search by Computer Name/Host Name. This would help to quickly locate specific devices since we do not try to memorize IP addresses used by workstations.

I have interacted with them several times, and I'm not giving them a 10 because they never blew my mind how good they were, but they certainly met my high expectations and helped us resolve all issues we had. We paid for support to help us set it up, and I think that was a good choice. There's a very steep learning curve at first with the initial configuration. We feel confident in being able to change everything now that we have been using it, but initially it was all a very new thing to us since we never had used a centrally managed Antivirus and Firewall program before.

Alternatives Considered

Comodo Antivirus

Especially considering the containment feature it had, we felt it was very well worth the price. All of the features are very hard to compare, and you have to eventually take a leap of faith. We were fine with where that took us with this program choice. Support has always been pretty good and friendly.

Malwarebytes Endpoint Protection

Malwarebytes Endpoint Protection is dedicated to protecting against and the remediation of malware. No other product does it better. Their consumer version of the software is often refereed to by other security products and security researchers to clean infected systems. It does not bog down your system or consume massive amounts of system resources to function and protect unlike products from McAfee.

Return on Investment

Comodo Antivirus

  • Overall a very positive impact. We like how it can be told to remove itself the next time a computer comes online. Web root never worked well at doing that.
  • It was cheaper than alternatives, and we were really impressed with how safe computers can be with containment as long as it doesn't slow you down if you use custom-built apps.

Malwarebytes Endpoint Protection

  • The ease of remediation has saved our IT team a number of hours manually installing, for example, the free version of Malwarebytes to remove infections, and then cleaning the machine up. Being able to centrally send commands to clean the device is much more efficient.
  • The centralised management has also alerted us to infections on machines that we might not otherwise have known about, as the existing AV had not detected them, saving us potential data loss, or system damage.
