Contentful

Coming from WordPress, Contentful feels like content management as it should be. There's no clutter to get rid of, you can simply start building from scratch, and the end product is perfectly tailored to your or your clients needs.

Pros

Contentful

  • Contentful provides organized, flexible data models with support for a variety of data types and content editors (e.g. WYSIWYGs, form fields, raw text areas).
  • Contentful has great built-in versioning features with history and draft states so it's easy to make updates and revert when needed.
  • Contentful has an intuitive user interface and good support for multiple spaces (which can be helpful for companies that need separate projects for dev/staging/production).

OpenText TeamSite

  • If you are nostalgic for 2004 style, closed source, poorly documented, ultra-proprietary, "enterprise"-ey type apps...this will be for you.

Cons

Contentful

  • Preview of changes prior to publishing
  • The ability to use a spell check plug-in when working on content (it doesn't work well with Grammarly)
Nathaly Sierra | TrustRadius Reviewer

OpenText TeamSite

  • Template and log access requires elevated privileges and could be exposed to front end teams more easily
  • Moving content and code between environments requires manual effort

Alternatives Considered

Contentful

Contentful offers a great deal of features for a relatively low price. This is what ended up persuading us to purchase it. We also gathered that this was one of the more well-rated products out there, which was encouraging. It definitely stacks up well against its competitors.

OpenText TeamSite

OpenText went through an RFP process against IBM Content Management back in 2012. OpenText not only met our business and technical requirements, but we asked both vendors to show a use case and OpenText provided an extensive solution that IBM could not. Also the content publishing capabilities was light years ahead. A couple of years ago, a new business manager had a bias toward Drupal. In looking at both systems side by side, Drupal had many flaws that would cause the content editor to spend a lot longer to accomplish their tasks. There were some business and technical requirements either Drupal could not meet or you needed add-on products to satisfy what is already in OpenText TeamSte.

Return on Investment

Contentful

  • It speed up our content creation process
  • We've freed up dev and design resources for more important projects
  • Given freedom to people to create new pages, while keeping some control so they wouldn't make serious mistakes

OpenText TeamSite

  • Every change related to Autonomy is mired down by the inefficient but necessary exchange with product support personnel.
