Likelihood to Recommend

Continuum Command, a ConnectWise solution

Before the merger, I'd have likely rated them a 9. But I think it's smart to be pessimistic about the tool at the moment. Not that the end result won't be great, but I believe people would be better off on a more stable tool if they have to pick/change right this minute. Once ConnectWise has had Continuum Command for a few years and all the dust has settled, this product will likely shoot back up in recommendations.

LogicMonitor

LogicMonitor is best suited to situations where you have multiple monitoring tools spread across infrastructure, both cloud and on-prem. This could be on an individual company basis or for service providers looking for a tenanted solution. It is relatively easy to deploy and scale, so can be started off small and grown as infrastructure and or customer base grows.

Cons

Continuum Command, a ConnectWise solution

  • Better reporting.
  • Patching can still use some help.

LogicMonitor

  • Automation/ease of setup: Some areas require a lot of legwork to get the best out of it. Not that this is much different to 90% of tools out there in the market.
  • Application monitoring: Not quite up to the depth of monitoring as dedicated APM tools, but still very strong in this area.
  • For our own use case (specific to only network infra), we find that the pricing is still geared towards the entire infrastructure, so good if that's what you want. Not so good if you only want part of LogicMonitor's vast coverage capabilities.

The only reason we would leave logicmonitor would be price. Everything else has been really really good

It's very good. One area for improvement is the ability to group large quantities of objects together more quickly or disable alerts for specific instances completely very quickly.Alert Tuning is one of the more complex, but entirely necessary parts of the product to use keeping me from rating usability a 10.

We have yet to have an issue that is outstanding and not resolved, even a small one. I can't really think of any situation that we had that took more than a week to resolve and most in a couple of days at most. They are very responsive and knowledgeable even on the first level support. You are not going to be talking to someone following a script but someone who seems to have the experience of having used the product themselves. Finally, if there are real issues or new bugs that are found, it seems like they are sitting right next to the developers in terms of their ability to escalate and get things working again.

Pretty straight forward. Not much to say except to speak to Logicmonitor about planning your collector sizes to begin with.

Alternatives Considered

Continuum Command, a ConnectWise solution

Automate (LabTech) would be the aforementioned "heavy-duty" kind of RMM tool. It's big, it's complex, and very capable compared to Continuum Command. That said, the impetus is very much on the service provider to configure and maintain nearly 100% of the product, whereas in Continuum Command there is a lot that is maintained by their team for you. Even without paying for the premium NOC services, the cloud-first construction and other specific features (like the Windows patch testing and delaying, etc.) are clear wins over the more traditional RMMs like Automate.Automate certainly wins in the technical prowess department. Its scripting engine and level of customization are unrivaled across basically all of the rest of the tools out there. As such, it will be very interesting to see what happens now that these two products live under the same roof. Hopefully, someday, a powerful hybrid of the tool that ConnectWise can focus all development on that harness the positives of each. Keep your eyes peeled...

LogicMonitor

LogicMonitor beats all of the competition as long as the environment can be monitored from the cloud. They do not currently have an option to monitor systems on an air-gap network, where other self-hosted tools could be used. LogicMonitor nearly eliminates the time spent administrating the tools. Collector upgrades happen automatically, we don't have to worry about local storage or data retention - it's all handled by them. Data sources provided by LM are updated as needed. Previously had used a selection of open-source tools which were great but didn't integrate with each other and left engineers checking multiple systems to get a complete picture. Many hours were spent on managing the servers running the tools every month.

LogicMonitor

  • It is great the pricing model is very flexible so it is easy to scale up and down as requirements change and fluxuate. It is also simple (less than it used to be) so fairly easy to calculate costs - no complexity around interface counts or whatnot - just number of monitored hosts.
  • Very fast to deploy so it is easy to go from a problem one day to a solution the next day - proactively identifying issues instead of responding to end user complaints.
  • LogicMonitor added a killer feature (possibly to compete with Auvik) of configuration management. However it costs a fairly substantial amount just to turn it on whether you have one device or 100. I don't get it - I think a nominal fee per device would align better with the service and customer expectations of the product.
