Cornerstone OnDemand

Cornerstone is the #1 Learning Management System for a reason. The Learning Management and Performance Management tools are amazing. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a talent platform. They have room to grow in the recruiting space. I believe that the new tools on the roadmap look promising, however, we ended up removing this tool from our contract and going with another vendor. Cornerstone is not nearly as experienced in the talent acquisition space as it is in talent management.

SAP Litmos

Litmos is a great tool for delivering learning to people. You can track the progress that users make - this becomes very important when there are critical mandatory trainings that you need the whole company to take, like for IT security or for GDPR. With Litmos it is easy to create learning plans for team members; I personally use learning plans for my team members' yearly goal setting and it works great.

SAP Litmos

  • Flexible capabilities on all devices: Many Learning Management Systems only have browser-based software, which can be limiting or too open when referring to an LMS. Litmos has iOS and Android applications that allow us to keep the system within a controlled environment.
  • Easily to integrate API: Without an API, Litmos would be pretty limited for our companies scope of work. The API allows us to build our own report with the data that is important to us instead of simply relying on the LMS's build in features to meet our needs.
  • Unlimited Storage: Many programs limit users on the amount of storage they can use which can be a real hiccup when trying to utilize captivating video or high-resolution photos. Litmos offers unlimited storage so uploading large files isn't even a second thought.
  • Support: Through the multiple support tickets that have been issued to Litmos by our company, they are always quick to respond and relatively helpful. Their development team might take a while to implement a change, but atleast your voice is being heard.
  • Uservoice: Litmos utilizes a system that allows users and administrators to actively participate in deciding what features get added next. Users can submit ideas and others will be able to vote on them.

  • Updating content and how that affects Curriculum/re-versioning
  • Certification management can be frustrating for expired users
  • Removing content for terminated employees could be easier, instead of removing content item by item, would be nice to be able to remove all content from active transcript to removed transcript

  • During our use of this system, we have found that the video tagging feature is not always perfect. The search functionality does not always return the correctly tagged videos.
  • The automatic speech to text processing is not always spot on with this software. Occasionally we've seen gross errors come up in the transcribed version that needed correction.

As long as pricing stays reasonable, we will likely stay with Cornerstone for at least one more contract renewal. It would be a large task to migrate all of our content to a new system. However, the LMS landscape is diversifying with new startups that are showing some real innovation.

For what we need in the very near future, Litmos does not offer us the required capability. Ideally, we are looking for an integrated LMS, coaching, mobile support and content creation platform. Litmos may have the LMS part covered but there are other platforms that do this better along with providing an integrated all-in-one service or at the very least support API integration with other vendors to meet our requirements.

Cornerstone OnDemand in general has very good usability. It is easy for end users to start using it. We don`t need to provide any trainings for learners or line managers. At maximum we can create one pager with general information. It is easy to search trainings. You don’t need to know the ID or full name of training.

Again as I mentioned for me as an instructional designer it's very easy to pick up this system and learn it based on all the training there is online. As a content creator being able to upload scorom files and being able to track them is key, this system allows for that level of ease.

Pages do not load quickly. Often times any action or selection of a box, drop down, check, pretty much ANY Javascript interaction causes the whole entire page to load/reload/start doing something in the background. This makes a nightmare for having to mass edit courses or upload ILT sessions. It's the one of the archaic web designs they use that really bugs me as an admin and makes working in the portal at times intolerable and insufferable

They are still working out issues with their support ticket system. I think we are now experienced enough that when we submit a ticket, there is not a quick easy answer and involves higher levels of support so it does tend to take a LONG time to get assistance. When there is a major issue, their communication is getting better but when you have a defect to report or a high level support it's going to be a while. They do have EXCELLENT online help, a very active online community where customers help customers and great user groups so there is other avenues of help

Cornerstone OnDemand is lightyears ahead of HealthStream. HealthStream's system is archaic and does not have any features besides basic compliance training. HealthStream is not visually appealing and users simply choose to log in and complete only what has been assigned to them. Cornerstone's catalog is so much more user friendly and inviting.

SAP Litmos

Before deciding to use Litmos, we were using a platform called Lesson.ly. Lesson.ly was a good platform for a good price, but at the time they did not have the features that we required. We have also compared Litmos to another LMS called Bridge. While Bridge had a lot of very attractive features, Litmos ended up being the best fit for our organization for a few reasons. One of the main was the ability to have quiz/test questions that required an open-ended response. Open-ended questions allow us to evaluate employee's writing style, as well as get deeper into how they would respond to a complex situation when actually interacting with a customer.
