Should consider allowing/supporting *BSD & OpenSolaris/IllumOS Unixes in their choices of .ISOs.
Should be a little more speedy updating non-systemd (real server) GNU/Linux .ISOs
For the number of servers they administer, might consider enlarging their team, but their current customer support team is more than adequate.

I've been with them a long time. They provide me with the capabilities I need coupled with knowledgeable support that's not pay-for-extra.However, if I move to a non-Linux OS, the level of support by necessity will drop off. I can still ask questions about the infrastructure but I my ability to ask about OS features will decrease.

Linode is perfect for what it offers: The UI is a great start. Managing DNS is straightforward. The API is simple and well documented. Everything just works. The performance of the VMs is good and global coverage is more than sufficient for me. Private Layer 2 networking is the only feature I miss which would be really adding value.

There is very little planned downtime. Whenever planned downtime is necessary I'm always given lots of advanced notice and an explanation that I can pass along to my users that they'll understand. I really appreciate that Linode appreciates my commitment to reliable service to my users. It shows that they believe they've been successful when I'm successful.

Linode is an infrastructure provider issues related to performance are really on me. Linode provides a capable infrastructure and allows me to tailor performance of the services I provide to my customers to my specific situation. Linode allows me to implement "tweaks" that, from experience, I know will do the job with little risk without a whole bunch of static from idiot support 'droids who just get in the way ("this isn't supported at the present time").

I wish it hadn't taken as many iterations as it did. Some of it is my own fault and some of it was related to limitations imposed on me by the programming environment I chose to use. All in all, I'd say I did a pretty good job. I'd stack my homegrown spam defenses up against anyone's!

Cubby is especially new in the market and is contemplating its business focus. They have adapted what their predecessors have created and implemented significant improvements in safety, performance and availability.

DO doesn't take debit card, only credit card. Not good for many people because taking a credit card in many countries has certain legal requirements that many people don't have. Plus their OS-Image storage costs money. Vultr doesn't offer resizing. Moreover, if you have a multiple app server, you have [to] spin up another server and config it to balance the load. In Linode, the load balancer is a different product. Offer's one click service.

Although I use only a fraction of their product offerings, the total set makes scalability an easy goal to shoot for. As I said, I have a few customers that use the services my Linode provides...and I like it that way. However, should I need to scale up, I can...without incurring any more cost than I need to.

Linode can be spun up so fast it is easy to jump right in.
Linode gives true console access, which AWS does not! That means things like single user mode and disk repairs (if even necessary) are actually possible. You can treat your machine like a pet, not cattle, if you want.
Linode has a fantastic mechanism for creating snapshots easily and affordably, and without shutting down the system; it's nice to know that safety net (and it works, btw) is there.
