If you have a very small database of people, then probably the whole integration isn't justified. If you have a small business and don't plan to scale much, don't do it. It will be expensive for what you can get elsewhere (Mailchimp).If you want a scalable and powerful platform, that will take some time to pay off, and you can wait, then do it. Once you get integrated and start sending events and attributes, the things you can do are almost limitless.

SalesGenius

Genius is well-suited for a smaller company looking to do one-off campaigns and not necessarily needing to track within a separate system. For example, the professional version of Salesforce is probably an ideal size for Genius. For a more enterprise/larger company I wouldn't suggest Genius be used.

SalesGenius

  • Genius helped by giving our company easy access to social sharing tools, and a streamlined process for developing unique URL's, tracking, and an intuitive dashboard reporting system. It's well designed UX makes it easy to train new employees to use.
  • As an analytics person, data is important to me. However, website tagging can be an enormous time commitment. Genius helped by allowing our company to get client sites tagged in order to track in-depth analytics and develop more sophisticated engagement metrics.
  • Email solutions worked wonders, by automating the customized email process and including it in the same application that we use for our other marketing channels.

  • I may be missing it in the UI, but a place to see the list of emails who qualify for a certain email.
  • One easy to view chart of all our automated/lifecycle emails to see what a given user would see over their customer journey. (This is really just a feature request/idea - the product itself is really awesome.)

SalesGenius

  • CRM Integration - Although Genius was great at tracking individual activity, there wasn't a way to pull over specific campaign details (ie, bounces, deliverables, statistics, charts). Our end-users not participating in the direct campaign had no way of knowing the results from within Salesforce.
  • Communication - I had a difficult time contacting Genius when I had issues or questions.

Customer.io

Customer.io was really the first pure, full-featured drip email program on the market and as far as I know, it's still the simplest and best overall for that specific function. SendGrid has also added drip campaign features, but I would seriously evaluate Customer.io against any other drip email provider because they really have all the key elements you need to make it work.

SalesGenius

Pardot is within the Salesforce CRM, so solves many issues for us as far as our employees seeing direct results. Genius is more suited for the larger, enterprise company, whereas Genius is better for a smaller team. Both are extremely efficient, just target a different business size/purpose.
