I had a customer who wanted me to do his wife's birthday party. I sent him the estimate and he gave me a deposit from his Venmo account. When the party was done, he forgot to pay for a week. I reminded him with an invoice and he sent a deposit. It wasn't immediately deposited, but it [arrived the next day].

Visa
  • They have built the connections to multiple card providers so that a retailer does not need to build the code for each one separately.
  • The decision manager product catches and stops a lot of fraud from getting through and causing a large number or chargebacks.
  • They also connect to PayPal making it easy to add them to any website as a payment method.

Cons
PayPal
  • Take out transaction fee. They are not PayPal
  • More understanding with bitcoin
  • Invoicing would be a good feature

Visa
  • fees- competitive, but budget for them
  • price transparency- it's hard to know exactly what you're being charged for. We are charged a small % of each incoming payment batch, so AR reconciliation is more difficult
  • implementation- significant time and expertise required to get everything up and running smoothly

PayPal
PayPal has more work items for businesses. It has invoicing, time tracking, and marketing strategies. I could [use] PayPal to run my business like I do with QuickBooks. Affiliates with other business is crazy. Plus, they also carry debit and credit cards for business and personal purposes. Venmo is the little brother [of PayPal].

Cybersource is a decent product but 2 things are driving us to look at others options. First is the lack of customer service. Every issue that requires help is dreaded as you know if will not be an easy process. This tags into the communication access with them. Multiple emails are generally required to get any response. There have been times when we requested information about PCI compliance that they never responded. Second is the cost savings with others processors. Currently we are leaning towards Elavon as their replacement.
