Dameware Remote Support

One key item to consider is the user base. Are they typically all on the network where you can access them directly or is the majority of the workforce you are supporting with the tool remote? If they are always remote, I would probably seek another solution. There are solutions that have the client check in component allowing you to connect as needed without the user having to use a provided link. This may be for support or for updates, etc., that the admin needs to do.

I love it when integrated with my MSP and client console.I don't like it so much for occasional on-demand connections or user-initiated scenarios.

Pros

Dameware Remote Support

  • Virtual display compatibility for multiple monitor workstation support
  • Upload and download of software patches in a shared folder with easy access
  • The ability to lock the end-user keyboard and mouse to prevent accidental confusion during critical operations

  • It's convenient! One click to select the computer with an issue from the RMM console, and one more click to make the remote connection.
  • The file transfer screen is laid out in a classic side-by-side explorer view, which it clear and easy to use.
  • Chat options, little surprises like "laser pointer" for live training or explaining with a user, local or remote printing, and video recording the session are great extra features over the basic remote control feature set.

Cons

Dameware Remote Support

  • Import of workstation information from another management system to ease build and deployment of the software.
  • Occassional loss of control of downstream system due to unforeseen issues (network/bandwidth?) - possible QOS escalation within the application?

  • I wish text rendering was done better when there is a large mismatch between remote and local screen resolutions. For instance, accessing a remote laptop with super high resolution / pixel density on a normal desktop monitor gives somewhat choppy fonts, so filenames can be a bit hard to read, regardless of local display size settings and optimization for high bandwidth. Yes there is an option to adjust the remote resolution, but that is often not desirable.
  • I don't choose MSP anywhere for on-demand remote support to for new clients or occasional remote help sessions. It's great for those integrated into the RMM, but I prefer other options for occasional or new users calling in for a quick remote support / fix.

Because it has enhanced my ability to trouble shoot more issues during the day. Instead of having to go to each machine and spend time at the machine, I can remote in from my desktop and assist the person 90 per cent of the time. I also use it from home to remote in which saves me the time from having to return back to the workplace.

Alternatives Considered

Dameware Remote Support

They both provide the same support, though I think Dameware has more features available than TeamViewer does. Between the two, I would recommend Dameware Remote Support for the additional features and better support.

I use both SolarWinds MSP Anywhere and ScreenConnect.SolarWinds MSP Anywhere is perfect for MSP clients on account and with an agent installed. It's integrated and makes all the connected tasks easier and the workflow is improved.I prefer ScreenConnect for my break/fix clients and random support calls, as it makes it easy to connect to unknown machines, via an emailed link or by directing the client to my remote support site.

You get an 8 because of the constant initial freeze on most connections. Takes a reconnect to have it work.

  • Looks professional and the ease of addressing issues raised by the RMM gives clients confidence in me as their provider.
  • Managed Service clients tend to appreciate minimal work interruption, so quick connections that don't require user interaction is great.
