dbForge Data Compare for MySQL

Data Compare covers two main use cases for us:
1) Keep data in sync between our development, test, and staging environments. When a full database import isn't practical, we will use Data Compare to sync data for key tables. We use this for configuration tables as well as operational test data.
2) Troubleshoot prod issues. When we have trouble reproducing user issues, Data Compare helps us compare our test environment data vs prod environment data to identify problems.

If you have to keep track of database changes that then need to be sent out to production databases, this is the tool for you! Never again will you need to write complicated scripts and try to catch all the changes that were made in the database between versions. It will even handle data if you need it to!

Redgate SQL Compare

  • Simple and easy comparison of database schemas and data. Differences can be copied or synced from one database to another with a click of a button.
  • You can save "projects" so that you can easily rerun a previous comparison whenever you need to.
  • It has a very simple, easy to learn interface. I've never needed to read any documentation or watch any tutorials in order to figure out how to do something.

Cons

dbForge Data Compare for MySQL

  • Comparison can be very slow on large datasets.
  • Comparing records that are *different* is clunky, especially for tables with many fields.

  • So far so good. I have to be honest, it's not a complicated application, and so far hasn't caused me any issues or to question the choices of the developers!

Alternatives Considered

dbForge Data Compare for MySQL

We haven't tried any other tools that do comparisons like Data Compare does. Our method prior to buying this tool was to manually run queries on each database and compare the output using text compare or by eye.

Honestly, I have never been interested in the usable alternatives. I have always been good to use it. The license cost after all has always been sustainable. I never had the idea of \ u200b \ u200bchanging it nor the need to look at other software. Also (always a redgate software) I use the Data Compare which is the "twin brother" for data check.
