dbForge Studio for SQL Server

It's good for if you need to: Edit and run queries in a new SQL document. Build queries in a visual designer. Run a large script without loading it into memory. Track changes of the production database. Create unit tests using a tSQLt framework. Source control database changes. Create database objects in a visual editor. Generate database scripts. It's not so good if you need to: Manage user permissions or debug queries.

Spyder

Spyder is suitable for a company that either does not have a considerable budget or does not want to spend on the tools that cost a crazy amount of money. In the meantime, have a group of real data scientists/data engineers to perform the data science analytic work.

Pros

dbForge Studio for SQL Server

  • dbForge Studio has a clear user interface to monitor SQL server performance. It allows me to kill large or possible inefficient SQL quickly so it doesn't impact the server too much.
  • I find the SQL editor to be more friendly to use than the competitors, which seems generic. I can preview tables while writing codes.

If your question is related to Python, you can find most answers almost everywhere by only searching Google. However, if the support you need is only related to Spyder, you might find it is a little bit hard to navigate down since the user base for Spyder is not too large.

dbForge Studio for SQL Server

I did not make the decision to choose dbForge Studio for SQL Server. I personally like dbForge Studio because of my familiarity with the SQL server and the UI.

Spyder

For PyCharm, if you choose the professional edition, you will have to pay an annual fee for it. Even your company is allowing those expenses. You might find it is still not worth it to pay for that since you can get a free community version for free or the Spyder for free.
