If you need a cheap solution and do not care too much about the data you are getting from your NPS program, then Delighted will do the trick. This does not seem to fit the needs of enterprise customers who want to go deep on data, segmentation, and quality feedback.

UserTesting

Testing prototypes, MVPs, getting feedback on your user flows/experience, etc.As a tester, you get to pick your audience down to specifics so the tests aren't just for play, but give real world use and experience to your product, service, or app. I suggest using it to test assumptions for anyone starting out with early phase software.

  • You can add in a variety of buttons and change the questions that you want to have in the survey.

UserTesting

  • UserTesting's panel of users comes from a wide variety of backgrounds and levels of internet experience. This helps to get a diverse set of users in front of your product before you put it out to the general population.
  • UserTesting has a simple set up process. This allows people from all different disciplines to set up and run user tests. Given this, we're able to look at business challenges from a variety of angles and allow many different types of business units answer their own unique questions.
  • UserTesting has awesome service and makes sure that we get what we ask for. Sometimes there are technical challenges with using an online product (both on our end and theirs), especially one that requires users to record their screen and voice. When these problems arise, UserTesting is great about working to resolve them and providing credit to give it another shot.

  • I would like to see more robust integrations with more software.
  • Reporting filters can’t be pre-configured or edited but instead, are based on column headers found in uploaded data. This can result in a messy dashboard.
  • Similarly, there are no usable options for reporting on date ranges, before/after dates, etc.

UserTesting

  • Pricing: They generally want you to sign up for high dollar packages on an annual basis. Not so easy to get started for smaller companies on limited budgets.
  • Occasionally you get some sub-par testers that waste your time by not really fitting the demographic profile requested or being well versed in the subject matter within the test. On the flip-side, UserTesting is good about getting a retake at no cost.
  • Support can be a little slow sometimes.

We're currently using UserTesting on a pay-as-you-go format where we purchase credits when we get low and use them fluidly to run tests. This format works great for us since our testing cadence waxes and wanes through the phases of any given project. With this low barrier to us using the service, where we can use it as much or as little as we like, it's a no brainer that we would keep buying credits as they come up.

The pros:
  • UserTesting is a great tool, and overall their customer service has been great.
  • Their CS agents are quick to respond on chat and provide helpful answers.
  • Their help docs are actually helpful.
  • They have a booming community of other user researchers who are willing to help each other in their community forum.
The cons:
  • UserTesting didn't turn on a feature that I paid for, for about 6 months and didn't reimburse me for the months that it wasn't turned on. This was frustrating

Delighted

Delighted is very easy to use, for both our organization and our customers. There was little, if any, learning curve to figure out how to use most of its features. On the customer end, it's as simple as opening your email and tapping a rating. This makes customers more likely to respond and provides us with more data to work with. Other survey services we have tried are not that simple and we have gotten a much better response rate with Delighted.

The maturity of the product is unrivaled, the team running the show is nothing short of amazing, and their product timeline and future plans directly reflect their customer's needs. You'll be hard pressed to find a company more customer-centric than UT, and it really goes to show you that they practice what they preach.

  • Negative ROI - this cost myself and my team way too much time, effort, and energy to ensure we were getting the right data. We make too many business decisions and customer communications based on our customer feedback programs, and data cleanliness - or lackthereof- truly made this a tough buy.
