If you're with a big company that can afford to pay $500 - 1000 per month or more for data, then this platform may have a lot of value for you. That's in part because you could use it to produce actionable insights on a mass scale and you may not be worried about the cost of incorrect data. If your company is a smaller company working on a budget, this most likely is not the solution for you.

Salesgenie

Salesgenie is great for business to consumer. If you are a financial adviser, insurance sales rep or solar sales, this is an ideal low-cost database that will help significantly. However, if you sell Business to Business, I would not recommend this product. It is not geared toward corporate structure and doesn't provide any value.

  • Hoover's has good information architecture in one sense that allowed you to keep track of where you have looked and also add anticipatory links for things you might like to research or know.
  • It was great for finding a more complete picture of the companies history.
  • It was helpful for piecing together contact information for people you may not have known worked there.

  • There are virtually no areas where this software can improve. This is elite b2b software that businesses who care about their prospecting/sales campaigns use.
  • Other than the software, the price itself can improve so start up businesses are more inclined to make the purchase.

  • Some of the addresses are incorrect, or the phone number.
  • I wish they would, in addition, provide the name of current managers as opposed to the owner of the building. And social media links as well.
  • I would like to see square footage of the building, the year the building was established, and the type of ceilings they have.

Hoover's just isn't compelling for the types of information they provide and the pricing model. But again, this is from the very limited perspective of a below entry level analyst who is just finishing their studies. It is probable that for some segments of industry, Hoover's has vast wealth of pertinent information. For example, when looking into agricultural industries for a consulting firm, I did not save any time with their service because information on factory locations and assets was scant. Using Google earth to view the square footage of the facilities to estimate assets was often more helpful.

They are terrific at giving instruction/webinars. I am able to call, directly, to an individual and talk to that person. I'm not talking to a robot. They give personal service which is really special.

Alternatives Considered

D&B Hoovers

D&B stacks up but not very high. ZoomInfo is in the lead for newer-looking technology and data quality. Sales Navigator is a powerhouse in the space and probably has the whole package that I'd want during prospecting except for the business code. Crunchbase has newer information and industry trends that are hard to beat. Hopefully D&B can modernize to stack up and make a more appealing UI/UX.

D&B Hoovers

  • Honestly cannot say we really drove any new sales using D&B Hoovers to prospect new companies and leads. We obtained higher data quality with other tools like ZoomInfo and Skrapp.
  • A year long contract that isn't honored on their side due to lack of customer service and poor data quality definitely does not equal ROI.
  • Spent significant time sanitizing and cleansing inaccurate data provided by their service. Since time is money in business, that was a loss in that aspect.
