Considered Both Products
Procore
Chose Procore
Procore has a great plan organization platform, which was a big factor in our decision. It also has great tracking features and automatic email reminders for RFI's and Submittals when they become overdue. Procore is much better and easier to use in most aspects than Sage 100 …
Chose Procore
To be fair, I only have contact with the other products through some client's platforms, so I can't compare them fairly.
Chose Procore
Procore was tested against many of the programs we were either currently looking into or tempted to purchase. After a long 12 weeks journey of rotating software's that were out there we found that Procore really combined all of them together in an ease of access way. With many …
Chose Procore
Procore had the most robust set of features of all programs we tested. Practically we don't need EVERYTHING Procore provides but it was easy and scalable, and cloud based - all features which are important since many members of our company are on the road quite a bit. It was …
Chose Procore
Procore is head and shoulders above Plan Grid which lacks even the most basic of functions. Procore is superior to Pype in its user interface and ease of use.
Chose Procore
Procore can not do the billings like I can in Sage, but Procore streamlines way more information than Sage ever could. Once procore updates their billing to have editable cost code fields, I could work solely out of that instead of Sage.
Chose Procore
Prolog is not as user-friendly as Procore. Prolog is very difficult to navigate through and does not save all contract documents in one place. A server would still be required to keep important documents like drawings and contracts.
Sage 100 Contractor
Chose Sage 100 Contractor
We are currently looking at Vista as a replacement Sage 100. The estimating features appear to be exactly what our department is looking for and the accounting staff is very pleased as well. We brought in Procore about a year ago and are very happy with it. The field staff …
Chose Sage 100 Contractor
It is top of the line for the cost.

Procore Technologies
Procore is well suited when there is an office staff to manage the application, if a company existed without an office staff then the field crews would have to maintain Procore. This could cause more problems than is solves. Otherwise having the ability to pick & choose different modules to suit our use cases is ideal

Sage
Sage 100 does what it needs to do for construction project job costing, and we additionally use it to enter payroll. That process is a bit cumbersome, time consuming with the # of employees we have. If the employee timecard was a lot simpler it would speed up the weekly payroll data entry process. As far as on the financial side, no complaints. Our controller seems to be happy with the system. He originally recommended we use it to more of its capacity earlier this year

Pros
Procore Technologies
  • Submittals, Easily able to track and keep a running record of documentation.
  • RFI's ability to track costs and impacts to the project in one useful tool.
  • Keeping all items for a job in one location. I love that Procore is my one-stop shopping for all items related to my project.

Sage
  • Sage integrates very well with our field time tracking software called Exaktime. We import the start/end time card data that includes job costs directly to the PR module which greatly reduces the time it takes to process payroll.
  • Sage 100 C payroll calculations and WC/GL overhead calculations are easy to use and understand. The WC/GL overhead calculations are posted to project costs in real-time allowing for accurate total cost reporting of the project.

Cons
Procore Technologies
  • Downloading drawing sets sometimes involves an extra step that holds up the process
  • The dashboard is simplistic to the point that I don't feel like I am getting enough information about a specific project from the get-go
  • Granting access to a project on Procore is not very straightforward as a consultant- restrictions sometimes cause hold-ups

Sage
  • Making time and material billings easier by complying with my proposal requirements.
  • Reducing the cost of support, since I hardly use it.
  • I don't like the reviews since we do a lot of small projects along with some big ones. Billings or invoices from vendors that have the same amount always trigger a question. Therefore I don't do the reviews anymore. It's so much nothing.

Likelihood to Renew
Procore Technologies
We will undoubtedly renew Procore as it has proven itself to be a means to better track and improve upon our efficiency and communications between job sites and their project managers as well as all other departments. Procore has made an incredible impact on how we, as a company, do our job on all levels; it is one of our most powerful and effective resources.

The cost of Sage 100 Contractor software is relatively inexpensive compared to some higher-priced options like Foundation and Microsoft Dynamics GP. But more importantly, the cost of implementing new software is costly. Implementation costs include testing and training. There are also risks involved with switching software such as missing data after conversion. Plus, there are always some unknown downsides to switching that are not apparent until the switch is made such as perceived capabilities that really don't exist. For these reasons, we will likely stay with Sage 100 Contractor for a long time. If we grow (say double) in size, we would consider other options.

Usability
Procore Technologies
90% of Procore is very intuitive and any user can pick it up and go. There are a few elements, more so on the Financials side that need some prior knowledge of systems in order to understand how and why it functions as it does. Once this is understood, it flows effortlessly

Reliability and Availability
Procore Technologies
If you are working in an area with little to no signal, Procore will still allow you to get in the system and use it fully and will then update once you are at a place with a strong enough signal. Whether it be with wifi or LTE cell phone reception.

Support Rating
Procore Technologies
General Support for Project Management and Financials is consistent. The ERP support is never consistent and I do end up at times in a black hole. I have to continually reach out to get the issue resolved or get an update. The ERP support needs more of Procore's attention

If we ever have issues with Sage 100, the live chat is an awesome tool. However, most of our live chat inquiries are not because of the issues we have, but more for us to better understand how we are supposed to use the software. Sometimes we ask ourselves "what if we" and if we need guidance, the live chat will provide us with the answers or resources to figure out what we need. They always follow up to ensure the problems we encounter have been fixed. If our issue is an indicator of an upgrade that could be made, Sage 100 C offers a way to submit the idea for review and improvement of the software.

In-Person Training
Procore Technologies
Procore's Implementation Team does a great job of ensuring users are confident in using the system. They run through a process of training sessions based on the tools you have purchased, and lay ou ta plan to help the power users configure the tool to suit the company's needs. They provide useful resources for certifications, support and ongoing training as well.

Online Training
Procore Technologies
Procore's certification program and focused how-to training videos allowed for easy training that did not feel overwhelming. The way the certification programs were broken up into small parts made it seem much less daunting to complete. The training feels focused and does not overload users with too much information all at once.

Iron out your cost code list in your accounting software before you link with Procore. Once the link is established that list is more or less permanent. Review the permission matrix carefully. It controls so much. You want to ensure the information provided to your users adequate but you also want to protect your sensitive data. Procore Financials are organized in a total contract value style. Any markup or Profit will need to be sent somewhere on your budget. This may be significantly different than the Cost budgeting that many contractors do

Alternatives Considered
Procore Technologies
Procore has a clearer user interface and a wider variety of tools than any program I've used. Procore also lives up to their name in terms of helpful and fast customer service. There is always a Procore rep. that is available to contact, making any problems just a mini hurdle.
