IBM FileNet

I would highly recommend IBM FileNet Content Manager to anyone who has needs that align with the following constraints:
  1. A client who needs highly resilient storage for content such as documents, media files, etc.
  2. A client who has a skilled support team that can perform periodic maintenance tasks on FileNet servers, WebSphere, and database

From a developer's perspective, IBM FileNet Content Manager is definitely usable but the user experience and user interface for some of the development tools used in IBM FileNet Content Manager need a big improvement. From an end user's perspective; however, the usability is excellent. IBM Content Navigator, which is the default UI shipped with FileNet, is very good in terms of UI/UX, extendibility, customization options, and feature set.

It's a great tool for our legacy system however the implementation, management time and lack of a niche provided by IBM makes it a difficult tool to recommend in a fast-paced market.

IBM FileNet

FileNet v ApplicationXtender
FileNet - much more robust.
ApplicationXtender - far more lightweight, easier to deploy and configure. Much more limited in scope.

IBM FileNet

  • A lot of improvement is required to FileNet error descriptions when we encounter with any FileNet errors.
  • For document management, workflow management and content repository. FileNet's capability to manage large number of files is awesome and robust.
  • Automation of business process which we developed for our last client has significantly improved their day to day process.
