Considered Both Products
Foxit PDF Editor (FoxitPhantom)
Chose Foxit PDF Editor (FoxitPhantom)
Foxit comes with an offline solution that can be deployed across the company. The price is good, compared with Adobe but a bit less competitive than Kofax. The interface compared to other mentioned tools is easy to deal with and seems to be intuitive for the users who uses …
Kofax Power PDF
Chose Kofax Power PDF
I've used Adobe Acrobat, FoxitPhantom PDF, Nuance Power PDF, and MS Word to work with PDF files, and when it came time to purchase our next tool for PDF editing I reevaluated them all chose Kofax Power PDF for the ease of use, value for the cost and powerful toolset.
Chose Kofax Power PDF
Foxit seem to be a bit more user friendly when it comes to document editing and speed is a little faster.
However it can't match to Power PDF in its power of characters/numbers recognition when it comes to converting documents to Excel.
Chose Kofax Power PDF
Kofax has a more user friendly interface that is easier to use for me.
Chose Kofax Power PDF
We were using Adobe before but they changed the Licensing mode to a subscription basis. This involves more money and more budget to preview for this.
More, Adobe updates are breaking the installations and the product should be repaired to get it back on track.
Foxit is more …
Chose Kofax Power PDF
There are a lot of free or inexpensive readers but few are as full featured as Power PDF. Adobe isn't the easiest to use and Foxit features are not all inclusive.
Chose Kofax Power PDF
Basically, if users have the budget and can afford it, they all go with Adobe. It's the standard, works well, and what most people think of when they want to edit PDFs.
If they have a limited budget, they usually go with Nitro. They like the UI and find it more intuitive.

Chose Kofax Power PDF
We chose Kofax PDF for its in-the app features, because widely used by major enterprises and it allows you to create, edit and annotate documents.
Adobe Acrobat DC - It is a powerful program, but also comes with a hefty cost, and limitations which Kofax surpasses. Plus Kofax is …
Chose Kofax Power PDF
The other products tested also failed to meet accessibility needs. Both other products had a better look and feel and were a better UX. I bought Power PDF hoping it had improved over version 2.0 in terms of editing for meeting accessibility standards.
Chose Kofax Power PDF
Kofax doesn't feel as intimidating as the other guys! There are so many other programs that just assume you know what you're doing and don't offer the same kind of support or use as many layman's terms as Kofax does. It definitely has a better, dumb-friendly "feel" to it, and …
Chose Kofax Power PDF
We used Adobe Acrobat for many years and versions. The cost for the Pro version (which we needed to get all the required features) was very high and we were constantly patching or upgrading to protect against vulnerabilities. It was more difficult to use than PowerPDF, as …

If you are looking for a cheaper replacement to Adobe Acrobat, this is the product for you. It does just about everything Acrobat does and some of the similar features work even better on FoxitPhantom. The ribbon UI on the software is similar to the Microsoft Office suite products, so it is an easy transition to make.

Pros
FoxIt
  • In my experience, FoxitPhantom can do everything that its better known pdf software competitor can do but it does it for a much better price.
  • Arranging pages, deleting pages, or merging documents is super easy.
  • I much prefer to "print to pdf" instead of printing out hard copies of documents. This software makes saving straight to pdf a breeze.

  • Power PDF integrates well with the Microsoft 365 (formerly Microsoft Office ) modules. This makes it very convenient to create .pdf documents directly from Microsoft Word and Excel and automatically open the resulting .pdf document in Kofax Power PDF for any required post processing.
  • Power PDF allows easy "drag-and-drop" assembly of a .pdf document composed of pages from various other .pdf documents. This capability is crucial to generating a single cohesive .pdf document from a variety of source applications.
  • Power PDF's cropping function allows for easily picking out excerpts from a .pdf document for use in other .pdf documents or other applications. The ability to save these files in JPEG format also provides good flexibility for importing to other applications.

Cons
FoxIt
  • One thing that can be a problem for some users is that at least when running on Windows 10 you can easily find yourself opening PDF files with Microsoft Edge when what you really want is to use Foxit. Somehow Edge overrides the default reader for PDF files and you need to know how to set your default program and do it manually. This is not a particular problem of Foxit but it would be nice to prevent Edge from overtaking the PDF files.
  • Foxit does so many things that it takes time to get familiar with all the small icons that are pretty much everywhere around your interface. You have this tiny quick access tool bar on the top left and some others on the top right, then a couple more on the lower middle. The only problem that I see is that they are tiny and I understand that we all want to maximize the working area on the screen but there could be an option to make them bigger.
  • One downside for some users is that you need to be logged in to your user. I mentioned this as an advantage because it gives you all the connectivity but on the other hand if you don't have internet access or you want to work as a stand-alone user it may be complicated.

  • Difficult to add stamps - wanted to add a "checkmark" stamp and had to first find an image then work hard to make it a stamp
  • Would be nice to have a better library of stamps for different use cases
  • Sometimes the "search and redact" feature misses things if they are not exactly right. For example, the same numbers with a hyphen are found but without a hyphen, they are not.

This program can do everything that acrobat can do. Kofax PDF is priced so that we can afford to purchase for more employees when we need to. Since we are hoping to grow exponentially in the next few years, this product will be the one we go with. I'm very happy with Kofax Power PDF

Usability
FoxIt
Foxit Phantom is pretty easy to use, but it is not as intuitive as the latest Adobe PDF products. Although the initial transition across the organization was filled with negative reactions, I think that over a few months, all departments were able to adapt to the new software and feel like they could find what they need within the tool.

It is fast and easy to get the hang of. It really didn't take a lot of effort to learn how to use this program and I appreciated that it was pretty "plug and play" and there wasn't a long learning curve.

Other that a PDF partially disappearing if left up for a long period of time - no issues. (If you close it and reopen it, it is all there. We have some PDFs that are 400-600 pages long.)

Performance
FoxIt
FoxitPhantom PDF integrates very well with the Microsoft Office products, which is where I found I use this the most. It performs about as well as can be expected, without any out of place latency. Whether it be merging, deleting, editing or rearranging pages, its performance holds up even with larger documents.

Pages nearly always load at the expected rapid speed. Some documents that print quickly from Adobe Reader print much more slowly from Power PDF. I have never generated a report - that's a feature I didn't know existed until now and do not know what it's for

Support Rating
FoxIt
I haven't personally had interaction with the customer support from FoxitPhantom, however based on conversations I have had with members in the organization, I was given positive feedback. Their website has a lot of information and tutorials. If you need to contact them, they are quick to respond. User manuals are readily available.

I haven't had to use the support yet, but I will give this company the benefit of the doubt before giving it a lower than stellar rating, especially because the product itself is integral to my business and therefore incredibly beneficial to me.

Alternatives Considered

FoxitPhantom PDF works just as well for a fraction of the price, and I feel more secure not using an adobe product on my computer. While the feature sets are very similar Foxit is both easier to use personally and easier to teach to new employees. We used Adobe for several years and it was always viewed as a necessary evil.

When I started using PDF software, I only knew of Adobe. I quickly learned Acrobat and found my way around that software pretty well. I tried others, like PDFCreator, but I stuck with Adobe until I switched to Kofax/Nuance. It was quick, simple, and seamless. It has a similar look and feel as Adobe; it has all of the same features; for the most part, the icons and menus are very similar in appearance and location; and the software, in general, is fairly intuitive.

Not really familiar since I'm the only person who uses it. But in the past it has been my understanding that Power PDF was offered only on a single-license basis, so it's been expensive for me to use it at home and at work because I had to pay for it on my own. In my current position management supports it so I at least only have to pay for it once.

Return on Investment
FoxIt
  • It's a less expensive alternative and for smaller businesses, that's a must, especially when needing multiple copies for employees at times.
  • Their call support will work with you on discounts at times to further minimize the cost.
  • They have at times helped me with transferring licenses of older versions (but still useful) by providing executables when they can't be found locally.

  • The ability to make images of text searchable enables me to do my job. Without this ability it was virtually impossible to find relevant information in these large documents.
  • The return on investment was huge. I can now take on much more work than before.
