Considered Both Products

Chose Foxit PDF Editor (FoxitPhantom)
1. In Kofax the functionality of the component is limited in that it cannot process PDF files larger than 2 GB due to the technological constraints of LeadTools. To process large PDF documents, it is advisable to use
Chose Foxit PDF Editor (FoxitPhantom)
Foxit comes with an offline solution that can be deployed across the company. The price is good, compared with Adobe but a bit less competitive than Kofax. The interface compared to other mentioned tools is easy to deal with and seems to be intuitive for the users who uses …

Chose Tungsten Power PDF
We have had instances where we've used the other two products. Adobe did not offer a one time payment at the time so we did not go with that one. Most users currently use Foxit. I would not say that Foxit nor Kofax really beat each other out, some prefer one or the other based …
Chose Tungsten Power PDF
Adobe Acrobat and Kofax Power PDF are similar enough to make transitioning back and forth easy. When I have had to use Foxit PDF Editor on someone else's computer, it has been disappointing in comparison. Online free PDF apps I see other people using tend to want you to …
Chose Tungsten Power PDF
We were using Adobe before but they changed the Licensing mode to a subscription basis. This involves more money and more budget to preview for this.
More, Adobe updates are breaking the installations and the product should be repaired to get it back on track.

Chose Tungsten Power PDF
Kofax Power PDF is found to have a best value overall for the price tag when considering the features, ease of use (easier than Acrobat in my opinion since it is more obvious where to find the expected tools), and the user interface which is simple and well organized rather …
Chose Tungsten Power PDF
Kofax shines in the security features (Signing functions) and comments (for others to make changes to documents), but true editing of documents can get cumbersome. This is mostly due to the "convert to editable" function not being as robust as other software. Since most of …
Chose Tungsten Power PDF
Adobe offers a lot of features, but usability and versatility are not as prevalent. Beats any freeware offering by miles.
Chose Tungsten Power PDF
I've used Adobe Acrobat, FoxitPhantom PDF, Nuance Power PDF, and MS Word to work with PDF files, and when it came time to purchase our next tool for PDF editing I reevaluated them all chose Kofax Power PDF for the ease of use, value for the cost and powerful toolset.
Chose Tungsten Power PDF
Foxit seem to be a bit more user friendly when it comes to document editing and speed is a little faster.
However it can't match to Power PDF in its power of characters/numbers recognition when it comes to converting documents to Excel.
Chose Tungsten Power PDF
Kofax has a more user friendly interface that is easier to use for me.
Chose Tungsten Power PDF
There are a lot of free or inexpensive readers but few are as full featured as Power PDF. Adobe isn't the easiest to use and Foxit features are not all inclusive.
Chose Tungsten Power PDF
Basically, if users have the budget and can afford it, they all go with Adobe. It's the standard, works well, and what most people think of when they want to edit PDFs.
If they have a limited budget, they usually go with Nitro. They like the UI and find it more intuitive.

We chose Kofax PDF for its in-the app features, because widely used by major enterprises and it allows you to create, edit and annotate documents.

Chose Tungsten Power PDF
The other products tested also failed to meet accessibility needs. Both other products had a better look and feel and were a better UX. I bought Power PDF hoping it had improved over version 2.0 in terms of editing for meeting accessibility standards.
Chose Tungsten Power PDF
Kofax doesn't feel as intimidating as the other guys! There are so many other programs that just assume you know what you're doing and don't offer the same kind of support or use as many layman's terms as Kofax does. It definitely has a better, dumb-friendly "feel" to it, and …
Chose Tungsten Power PDF
We used Adobe Acrobat for many years and versions. The cost for the Pro version (which we needed to get all the required features) was very high and we were constantly patching or upgrading to protect against vulnerabilities. It was more difficult to use than PowerPDF, as …

Excellent for converting PDF to Word, truly effortless. Does a wonderful job of reducing file sizes. I have been able to reduce files sizes by up to 80%, which is great if you are working within an e-mail system that has file size limits. Does an amazing job of inserting accurate bookmarks (automatically) when combining multiple documents. Easy to remove unwanted documents and replace with others, as well as rearrange PDF's. Absolutely love and has saved so much time in the workplace using the electronic signature features

Pros
FoxIt
  • FoxitPhantom carries superior editing tools over Adobe Acrobat and similar products. It allows you to modify text, images, & objects in a more robust fashion
  • Integrates well with Microsoft Office products such as Word, PPT, & Excel
  • Allows you to work in a nearly paperless environment

  • Typewriter functionality is great, although can take some time to load. This allows you to fill in text wherever applicable without turning the rest of the pdf into editable text.
  • Fast load times
  • Has autogenerated text feature so anything in the pdf can become editable

Cons
FoxIt
  • I have a dual monitor setup at work and there are times when I wish that I could view pdf documents on both monitors at the same time. I have not yet figured out how to do that with FoxitPhantom as it appears to limit the user to displaying multiple pdf documents as separate tabs on the same screen. If dual screen is an option in the software, it needs to be more apparent.
  • I can't think of any other desired improvements. This software really does everything that I need it to do.

  • I find that quickly editing text within a document or adding a line of text is clunky and can snowball into things popping out of place. I prefer to export text, and then work on it elsewhere.
  • Sometimes it seems that text recognition is trying too hard and throws me paper punches as "O"s and wrinkles as shapes, so I have to get rid of those artifacts.
  • The "Update Available" popup which is usually not an actual update announcement but rather an offer to sell me something is annoying.

Because very few editors are so easy to use and deploy backed by speed and performance. Foxit PDF is known for its speed and performance, allowing users to open and work with PDF files quickly and efficiently
Foxit's user-friendly interface is easy to navigate and use, making it a popular choice for users who are new to PDF software.

This program can do everything that acrobat can do. Kofax PDF is priced so that we can afford to purchase for more employees when we need to. Since we are hoping to grow exponentially in the next few years, this product will be the one we go with. I'm very happy with Kofax Power PDF

Usability
FoxIt
Foxit Phantom is pretty easy to use, but it is not as intuitive as the latest Adobe PDF products. Although the initial transition across the organization was filled with negative reactions, I think that over a few months, all departments were able to adapt to the new software and feel like they could find what they need within the tool.

It is fast and easy to get the hang of. It really didn't take a lot of effort to learn how to use this program and I appreciated that it was pretty "plug and play" and there wasn't a long learning curve.

Other that a PDF partially disappearing if left up for a long period of time - no issues. (If you close it and reopen it, it is all there. We have some PDFs that are 400-600 pages long.)

Performance
FoxIt
FoxitPhantom PDF integrates very well with the Microsoft Office products, which is where I found I use this the most. It performs about as well as can be expected, without any out of place latency. Whether it be merging, deleting, editing or rearranging pages, its performance holds up even with larger documents.

Pages nearly always load at the expected rapid speed. Some documents that print quickly from Adobe Reader print much more slowly from Power PDF. I have never generated a report - that's a feature I didn't know existed until now and do not know what it's for

I haven't personally had interaction with the customer support from FoxitPhantom, however based on conversations I have had with members in the organization, I was given positive feedback. Their website has a lot of information and tutorials. If you need to contact them, they are quick to respond. User manuals are readily available.

I haven't had much interaction with support for this product as it is relatively easy for me to use and intuitive. When Kofax acquired the program it rewrote some of the features and I think I reached out for help at one point but tech support provided a quick answer. I did have a very positive experience with the sales staff who helped me get a discount on the current version because I'm a long-time user.

I would say that when you want to get a bigger share of the market and take business from long time consolidated applications like Acrobat, you really need to try harder and give something more to the user to be able to change their mind and switch to Foxit. In our case licensing was an important factor and at the beginning we had a small learning curve with users asking how to open PDF files and what was that orange icon. The truth is that we as users accepted the new software happily because simply said: it does the job. After using Foxit I would not go back to Acrobat, I like better the connectivity, the simplicity and the way it manages the tabs.

I think Adobe Acrobat is very slow and does not perform well with large documents. I often have documents that are thousands of pages long and with Adobe it's very difficult to open and load the document, let alone make changes. Kofax Power PDF, on the other hand, responds and performs well regardless of the document size.

Not really familiar since I'm the only person who uses it. But in the past it has been my understanding that Power PDF was offered only on a single-license basis, so it's been expensive for me to use it at home and at work because I had to pay for it on my own. In my current position management supports it so I at least only have to pay for it once.

  • Saved time and paper putting together binders of documents or Affidavits electronically, not to mention very functional when working from home!
  • It's one price, no monthly or yearly payments. I loved Kofax Power PDF so much that when I moved to a smaller firm I recommended it as a good purchase for the company to invest in.
