GoFundMe
GoFundMe is well suited for personal appeals where a story can be told and donors feel an immediate result or effect. It is less appropriate for larger mass appeals that are not targeted directly to a specific cause. For example, not good for companies to ask for funding for operating expenses.

Qgiv
Qgiv is great for small businesses or large companies that are looking for a user-friendly software to use to process donations, sale items or simply use a tool for peer-to-peer fundraising. The customer is by far the best service I have ever received and the baseline data is easy to export for donor cultivation purposes

Cons
GoFundMe
  • Need a clearer picture of your campaign status, especially around publishing (making it live).
  • Processing rates are not horrible but not great either - If we used our own processor our fees would be cut in half.

  • I don't have any suggestions here - they treated me like royalty - anything I didn't understand they walked me through and when I forgot it the next time and had to ask again - they acted like that was common - putting me at ease to call them back any and every time I need them.

Usability
GoFundMe
GoFundMe is very easy to use and does a great job allowing us to share insights and stories to leave a lasting impression on donors. From setting up the account to ending the appeal, the entire process has been very user-friendly. I'm very impressed with the experience so far and plan to continue using it for future campaigns.

Support Rating
GoFundMe
Crowdrise has been great with their customer support. They have always been helpful and available. They also have several resources on their website that has been useful to other areas of our non-profit. Their relatability has been positive for us and has made us feel taken care of and considered.

Customer support is amazing - they're very prompt, thoughtful in their response, and are clearly trying to help you problem solve, not just find a quick fix.

Alternatives Considered
GoFundMe
Since GFM was selected for us I can't give the rationale behind that. However, I do think that Qgiv and Salsa are more internally user-friendly and provide at least the same amount of functionality. That being said, the other two (I think) require CRMs to use whereas GFM can just integrate with others, making it a better choice for one-off campaigning.

Qgiv
Qgiv is by far a better product. No hidden fees and the team of developers continue to make updates that are relevant to keeping the software competitive and user-friendly. Also, customer service is a 10 out of 10 when it comes to troubleshooting different software scenarios. Finally, the ability to export and import is a basic and awesome necessity.

Return on Investment
GoFundMe
  • Brought in new donors from outside our solicitation area.
  • Appeals to younger audiences.
  • Great way to include client testimonials and stories.

Qgiv
  • For the price, it's a solidly positive ROI for its functionality as a credit card processor. Prior to Qgiv we used MobileCause and I think the impact of the change has been neutral.
  • Even though the integration with Exceed Beyond isn't perfect, it's still an improvement over entering all the data by hand. Saving time is hard to calculate, but I would say it has probably dropped our donation entry time by at least 10%.
