Coordinating content, events, and information to a diverse audience is a strength of the platform Differentiating between social media platforms in terms of system requirements and image guidelines is a second strength Some media can be difficult to manipulate, especially when the image or media is external (novice creatives will be guided through the best treatments).

The free version is more than enough for personal use. But if you have a small business or if you're trying to grow your brand, it's better to use one of the premium plans. It's worth it. Later is especially useful if you manage multiple accounts for multiple brands/companies because you'll be managing everything with just one tool

Pros
Hootsuite
- Allows the same posts to be placed on multiple sites
- Schedules posts
- Crops photos according to each platform
- Provides a calendar layout
- The option to shorten links... can you make it so the shortened links are visible in the viewer prior to scheduling the post?

- Later's easy upload feature (drag and drop) is incredibly helpful, especially for multiple images and videos.
- The drag and drop option for scheduling content is easy, and images and videos load rather quickly depending on size.
- Captions can be saved if there are posts or common phrases that repeated and shared out from the content.

Cons
Hootsuite
- The arbitrary limit of 5 scheduled posts is very frustrating. This limit used to be higher and it seems they lowered it just to get more money
- Limit on number of accounts that can be hooked up on the free platform
- Sometimes the stream moves very quickly and there is no way that I have found to halt it so that I can read something before it scrolls off... this is mostly for my Home Twitter stream that tracks posts by those I follow

Later
- I wish I could edit the look and feel of my pictures within Later a little easier. There are standard filters, but for brand sake, I need everything to be consistent.
- I wish there was a direct integration with things like Canva and Lightroom to make uploading and editing my images seamless.
- The biggest thing I wish Later did was allowing a better threshold for the free accounts. All of the helpful and useful features are for paid only (video posts, multi-image posts, analytics, etc). I can't justify the cost for just a few posts a month. I end up doing all of the video and multi-image posts manually, which lately has me questioning the benefit of Later's free version as a small business.

At this time we are satisfied that Hootsuite offers the most of what we are looking for at the most reasonable price point. As the social media landscape and monitoring/scheduling software changes, so do our needs. We re-evaluate our tools semi-annually or as new tools emerge onto the market. If we find at any point that we aren't gaining an advantage, then we are open to switching products.

The layout of horizontal columns for each stream or search is a very cumbersome way to display information. There isn't an easy way to sort, filter, or otherwise re-organize the streams to limit the current view to relevancy. This is one of the primary reasons why we plan to move to another platform.

Later is extremely easy to use. I love the visual planner portion of the tool so I can see ahead of time what my images will look like next to and stacked amongst each other! The posts are so easy to set up, tag, and schedule. UX and UI are great!

Any outages are communicated in advance and have not been a problem. We let our clients know based on communications from HootSuite.Since we operate 24/7 with multiple shifts, planned outages can interfere with our operations, but we can always work around it.

Hootsuite makes passing on articles from the web very easy- when it works! I have had a number of gliches with Chrome where it does not open properly and the solution (after some toing and froing with support) was to uninstall and reinstall. The support staff are always very helpful (which is great!) but the gliches..... well, they suck when you are already busy!

I haven't had to use support for Hootsuite at all, but from what I hear, their functionality is incredible! I hope I never have to use support, but it's good to know that they're efficient at their job, and it is one of the reasons why I love Hootsuite so much.

Later are not just a software tool, they also provide marketing advice, tips, and tutorials via their blog. I’ve only had to reach out to them for help a few times and have found them to respond much faster than other tools in their category. I receive weekly emails with updates, marketing tips and invites to online events. I look forward to their emails as I’ve learned a lot of things that I’ve been able to actually implement.

Would rate it a 10. We received two hours of online training and it was of very high-quality. HootSuite also offers HootSuite University which is an extremely comprehensive training portal with self-paced quizzes, training webinars and videos, best-practice papers, product certification, and access to a network of external experts. This is a fantastic resource.

One person of the organization must take the time to understand the product throughly. Next that person should work with the Hootsuite team to maximize the architecture of your platform and mitigate any problems that may crop up. Also, if a team members voices a concern or is having a problem roll your sleeves up and help them if not it can kill support for the product and end any chances of a renewal. Lastly, set aside enough time to allow for training and refresher training. Solve all problems ambiguity can not be permitted

Alternatives Considered

Honestly, it's been years since I used anything but Hootsuite. About five years ago, I did a bit of a vendor analysis and concluded that for my needs (which are primarily high-volume, high number of social media accounts), Hootsuite is the most cost-efficient option. However, let's face it: That's because my monthly fee is a lower, grandfathered rate.

Sprout Social is a great tool, however, the price for a smaller company like ours was prohibitive. Later doesn't have LinkedIn support the way Sprout Social does, however Later does have unique product offerings for Instagram that ultimately set them apart for our team. We've had no posting errors or issues with Later's reliability like we have experienced in the past with Sprout.

- I have been able to evaluate which posts, in general, do well and figure out what types of posts to make (content)
- It's been harder however to compare on social medial platform compared to another because it's hard to duplicate a post with a new owly (I think you used to be able to) but more so, you also can't assign it a custom owly link so I can see at a glance which owly link was associated with what platform.

- Increased social media involvement - Since utilizing Later and another social media scheduling tool, we have seen our growth rise as much as 12% in just a few months. This includes followers, likes, and engagement. This is huge for us since social media is a great way to generate new customers and increase brand awareness.
- Easier reporting - Analytics tools on most of the big three (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter) are pretty limited. Later is a great way to take a look at our Analytics, and it makes it easy to understand the numbers.
