Hopin is very suitable for large events involving 100+ people where there are only a couple of people speaking. You can have a bunch of features such as networking and all in all, is quite a professional experience to use. For smaller groups, It takes too much effort to set up and isn't worth using over Google Meet or Zoom.

I really have nothing bad to say about OneCause they have been great to work with for the past 2 years, obviously being a non-profit, we always think everything costs too much, so many if it was less expensive, but the support staff is worth every penny. Keep up the amazing work and wonderful platform

Pros

Hopin

  • Awesome for managing several sets of panelists
  • Very easy to manage event attendees
  • Love the chat functionality during the events, enabling the audience to connect with each other
  • Hugely simple for anyone with little tech knowledge to design and run an event
  • Cost effective for the volume of events we run, where we need scale and quality
  • Live streaming an event is also very well catered for
  • Branding across the platform is simple to implement

  • Customer service during planning phases- reps always get back to me to help answer my questions.
  • Event managers are always great to work with at our Gala. We really need someone to make sure the whole program runs well, and OneCause never disappoints.
  • Variety of events that we can use this for is awesome! No need for paypal, venmo, etc.
  • Mobile bidding has been a game changer for us. People can participate in our auction even if they cannot attend the event!
  • Platform is relatively easy to use- intuitive even for those who are not techy!

Hopin

  • The biggest hangup we've encountered is from guest speakers who need to join us on either tablets or smartphones. Hopin doesn't play well with mobile devices for onscreen guests.
  • I'd like to see the broadcasts in vendor booths be recordable in the way broadcasts in the sessions or on the stage are.

  • more integrations- less manual work
  • easier user interface- sometimes very clunky and hard to navigate through
  • ability to connect donors and winning bidders directly through the platform

    I'm a pretty tech-savvy person but I still feel that Hopin was pretty user-friendly even for those of you who are less tech-savvy. Great thing is, you can play around and test the platform with the free version which allows you to get familiar with it before committing to the paid. I learned most of it on the free version which then made me more confident when deciding to use the paid version. Not only did it help me on the setup side, but it also proved to me that this was what we needed to do what we needed to do.

    OneCause is very user-friendly both for setup and for our donors. Before using OneCause, we would organize all the logistics and the auction without the help of auction software. OneCause has greatly simplified the process. It is easy to set up and offers a lot of resources for first-time users.

    For the most part you're able to get a response from a support person within a few minutes, but there was a stretch when Hopin was reshuffling its staff that it sometimes took 24-48 hours, which is too long. However, as long as the staff remains stable - which seems likely - then its Support team is usually quite responsive.

    As stated previously, the support is top-notch. Quick responses, knowledgeable support staff and also a lot of videos and articles available for self-help. Best thing is that you do not have to talk to a chatbot. You can talk to real people via chat, phone or email

    I don't know if my insights are key but I can say that implementation was done in-house without any outside support for the solution. The staff influencing the solution had very little technical expertise and ability as well which showed just how easily the software was to implement.

    Alternatives Considered

    Hopin

    We were with a company before Hopin - we explored elsewhere due to cost. Pros were design and custom look. We moved to Hopin, it was innovative at the time, although the design wasn't strong the features were. The majority now have the same features. So we did leave Hopin for another platform again because we wanted a custom look, and we were preparing for hybrid. Hopin wasn't ready. We soon realised other platforms we came across are complex, difficult to use. We left and came back to Hopin.

    The biggest draw for us was OneCause's silent auction offering. We had been doing silent auctions on paper for the last four years and we were looking to update our process and draw in more bids with added convenience. OneCause was able to create a one-stop-shop for us where we could have all of our Gala offerings in a central location.

    Return on Investment

    • Without Hopin, it would have been impossible to host an event at the scale and user interface that we did, with the staff limitations we have. Hopin enabled us to execute a very high standard with limited resources. For example, before Hopin, we could only attract about 100-200 attendees. With Hopin, we 3x our registrations and attendees.
    • The data collected from their system on attendees allows us to more accurately speak to our target market based on their tracked habits during the event.

    • Once we joined OneCause for our event fundraising platform we never looked back. Each year we've experienced growth with not only the funds raised but also in the improvement of the event execution.
    • We've learned a tremendous amount for in-person fundraising success through the OneCause team and that has led us to explore virtual and campaign options.
    • The onsite event support has proven so valuable to our event success we have begun budgeting to have that same level of support at all our in-person events. The OneCause event team guides you well during the planning phase and then provides top-notch support and peace of mind the night/day of the event.
