Great use case: If you have multiple salespeople, Hubspot makes it really easy to share and hand off email threads so the whole team can see the conversation with a lead and easily collaborate on closing a deal. Bad use case: We tried to use Hubspot as a tool to track our fundraising round. I don't recommend it, it ended up being too much work to manage.

Streak

I think Streak is well suited for companies and users that want to better manage contacts and deals inside their Gmail/Gsuite inbox in a simple way, with the benefit of getting some productivity features that help save some time when working with a lot of e-mails. I think it is less appropriate for users that have a huge database of contacts and heavy CRM needs.

Pros

HubSpot Sales

  • Integration into GSuite/Gmail. The setup is super simple, and eliminates the need for duel entry as contacts and email streams flow freely from Gmail into HubSpot.
  • Task Management. Tasks are easy to setup by deal, company or individual. The reminders help keep users on task.
  • Funnel Management. It is easy to see where deals are in the funnel, and to manage deals if they stall.

  • Color Coded and custom stages allow you to plan your campaigns and track them efficiently
  • Being able to assign it to different team members works great.

Cons

HubSpot Sales

  • The main thing Hubspot can improve on in their Sales product is the 'depth' of how to configure things. For instance, it's much easier in Salesforce to associate things like buyers & re-sellers or more complex sales than a simple SaaS sale.
  • Many of my gripes about the product have actually been addressed in the last 6 months alone -- I'm really hoping they continue this pace of innovation.

Streak

  • Streak could improve in the way it first integrates into Gmail. When you clear Cache and Cookies it disconnects and then you can accidentally send out emails without open-tracking.
  • It could improve by having a better import system for importing data into the "boxes" used for mail merges.
  • It could be improved by having the ability to split reminders for companies, based on who you talked to.

It's totally clean, consistent, and easy to use/understand. I love everything about this tool! From Gmail to being in the platform everything looks similar, is orange and easy to find, and very clear and user friendly. It's intuitive and hey, if my sales reps are using it it must be good and simple!

Oh my goodness HubSpot Support is just amazing. I submitted a question/issue to them yesterday and by this morning I had this response:
"Hi Stephanie,I hope this finds you well and thanks so much for your patience while I was working to update the extension with my team. We were actually able to push through an update yesterday afternoon which set the default lifecycle stage to lead in the sidebar. If you take a look now, that should be in place. If it has not updated yet, I would recommend uninstalling and re-installing the sales extension so an updated version and be pushed through.Again, I want to say that I sincerely appreciate that you took the time to reach out to us and help us iron this out. HubSpot really values constructive feedback with real use-case backing to help push it along. So, thank you!"

They scheduled a call to go over each individual tool with our team and provided guidance and best practices plus answered any questions are new users had. It was wonderful and really helped them get started confidently

Alternatives Considered

I have used Salesforce Sales Cloud extensively. It still remains the absolute gold standard for CRM. There are hundreds of companies who have built solutions to plug into it, most sales reps will be familiar with using it, and it really is great. If you are a medium sized business and on the fence, consider if you will use Sales Cloud you need someone to be a full-time sales admin/developer (to get the most out of customising) as well as full-time sales operations - to manage process and data analysis. Trying to this on a shoestring would be very silly. HubSpot is a fantastic program your business can grow with for years and the huge plus is when you decide to move to Salesforce, your HubSpot data is exportable and would make that possible.When I was looking for something for my personal use I looked and evaluated the following:SalesforceIQ - WAAAAAY too expensive for what it is and the CRM functionality is total rubbish - would NOT recommend this as a CRM OR as an email tracking tool bolt on to Salesforce Google ProsperWorks - integrates nicely with GSuite, not sure about Outlook. I felt it didn't have the functionality I wanted and the price point wasn't there.Zoho - too complicated to setup and too simple to be helpful, didn't use extensively but didn't like almost immediately

Pipedrive is somehow "disconnected from the rest of the world" being a standalone app (the last time I used it was three years ago, that may have changed.)
Salesforce is over-complicated and cumbersome for the "discovery" part of the sales process.
Streak is straightforward to implement and starts saving you time right away, up to the point where a lead becomes an opportunity.

  • We don't have to pay for multiple third party tools because HubSpot has built so many into one platform.
  • It gives us tons of analytics on how to improve our website conversion rates.

  • I can easily see who is engaging with my emails and who isn't. It has directly saved me time in not working with prospects who aren't even opening my emails, or potentially those who are opening, but never responding.
  • Streak has increased my awareness if old leads are re-opening my content. I've closed deals because I called someone who was re-opening my content.
  • Streak has saved me time in pre-programming when I want a strategic email to be sent. I can now have emails sent first thing in the morning while I may actually be on calls or in meetings.
