IBM

I have liked the performance of this platform since we deployed it. It provides us with an additional network layer that eliminates any bottlenecks of our virtual servers. It has high functionality speed in data processing contributing to faster workflows. Security of our private cloud is guaranteed at an affordable and reliable cost.

There are some specific scenarios where SAP on IBM Cloud is less appropriate. For example, if a company is looking for a platform to run small or experimental applications, then SAP on IBM Cloud may not be the best option. Additionally, if a company is looking for a very customized or tailored solution, then SAP on IBM Cloud may also be less appropriate. However, for most businesses who are looking for a secure, scalable, and reliable platform to run their business applications, SAP on IBM Cloud is an excellent option.

Pros

IBM

  • The IBM Cloud Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) architecture allows scripted preparation and management of the virtual environment, which we use to link the IBM VPC API with an Ultimus CPS solution, allowing our colleagues to manage the IBM environment directly from our own management solution.
  • IBM Cloud Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) uses a "pay what you use" pricing model. By integrating the IBM Cloud Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) API into Ultimus management processes, the machines can be started and stopped automatically specifically for the needed times. This saves us a lot of money.
  • The performance of the IBM VPM machines is excellent and gives us great performance for developing and presenting our Ultimus products and solutions.

IBM

  • IBM Cloud, like other clouds helped us to make a switch from Capital Expenditure model to Operational expense model.
  • Our existing infrastructure had availability, recovery and scalability issues. With IBM cloud we are able to speed-up recovery and minimize risk to business.
  • IBM also offered us a way to optimize the total cost of ownership without making any sacrifices on the business and IT needs.

Cons

IBM

  • UI has lot of confusion, new user gets lot confusion while navigation.
  • Most of IBM cloud has pre -configured Vm's, very less customization available.
  • Very limited varieties of flavors for windows and Linux OS available.
  • Compared to AWS very less features like SQL & Oracle DB's are also missing.

IBM

  • Initial triage on reported issues is effective in the way the right resources fit for the job are engaged. However, it can be faster.
  • From a customer perspective, we had knowledge gaps and initial challenges on defining a direction. IBM's support was critical in getting a foot hold.

Great responsiveness and detailed know-how from the team. Self Explanatory and good resources on the Web to resolve issues. Good communication on issues via email. Good response times on issues which arise and where we have received support from the IBM support team. We believe that IBM is a great Partner to base our IT applications and we believe that a critical infrastructure like a cloud backend will be well served if we continue to base it on IBM.

The implementation of the VPCs was seemless. All the components worked according to their function. This was also done quickly, and without needing a lot of administrative support. By gaining support from IBM as well, this gave us the expert administrative support we needed and did not have to burden our own departments

      IBM

We chose IBM Cloud [Virtual Private Cloud (VPC)] because of its tight integration with the Lithops library, which allows us to quickly scale our compute resources by provisioning VPC instances or calling Cloud Functions, handling all the deployment, data moving, etc. without us needing to know the details or learn another language, all from Python code.

I have tested out both Microsoft Azure and SAP on IBM Cloud and can confidently say that SAP on IBM Cloud is the obvious choice. The key advantages of SAP on IBM Cloud compared to Microsoft Azure are that IBM Cloud offers free unlimited access to tech support, provides higher object storage space as well as unlimited private virtual servers.

      • Positive - We have a need to innovate and moving to IBM cloud offered us all the technologies and abilities to innovate faster and for cheap[er].
      • Positive - the amount of data that we have generated over the years was left unleveraged to its full potential. However we are now able to make sense of that data in near-real time.
      • Positive - due to the low total cost of ownership, we are able to take on new initiatives involving inrastructure and scale down if it doesn't make business sense.
