Ironclad
IronClad works great for organizations that have to deal with a lot of legal agreements at the same time, it works great for having a legal team reviewing and modifying the same legal document in a single place, and the comments in the workflow, and the approval functionality allows keeping track of the changes and assign accountability.

Kira is a great due diligence tool and can be well utilised on both large and small transactions. It also has good application if you are looking to compare multiple documents against a model form document or market standard templates. Kira is less useful if you are looking to review emails (e.g. as part of a disclosure exercise); or if your review involves non-Latin based script languages.

Pros
Ironclad
  • Very flexible workflow design tool.
  • Functions are fine-tuned but not too much.
  • Easily understandable product which user can handle.

Litera
  • UI/UX - tagging and naming feels much easier than you'd expect machine learning to feel
  • Accuracy - Kira's built-in models perform well out of the box
  • Assistance - Kira's support team gets back to me same day if I have a question

Cons
Ironclad
  • Once you add someone into a workflow there is no way to remove them. It would be nice to be able to get out of a workflow or remove someone.
  • The "assignment" function could be more clear for those individuals who don't regularly use Ironclad. Perhaps prompting them on how to upload a signed agreement if they are not the owner of the workflow.

  • Inability to relabel smart fields to suit the review process means it is hard to align it to particular projects (e.g. it would be useful to relabel the "Assignment" smart field as "Is the contract assignable?")
  • Not enough non-English smart fields.
  • Needs the ability to resell user-trained smart fields in a marketplace.
  • Output is not customizable enough.
  • Built-in analysis tools are useful but a little basic.

Usability
Ironclad
The platform works great, the user interface is simple and clean, and very intuitive to use. Having different sections for completed or in progress workflows is really helpful, but I wish the title given to the different workflows could be easily modified in order to better identify the legal documents and workflows that are being developed with our different partners

If our firm had more contracts in English, the usability of Kira would be rated higher. However, since we have to train clauses in Portuguese in order to use Kira, it makes its usability lower. We still are not able to fully use Kira for reading contracts in Portuguese. It takes a long time and many associate hours to make Kira usable in other languages.

Support Rating
Ironclad
The Ironclad support team is very knowledgable and supportive to implement workflows, and also they also understand new features and releases. We could discuss how we should use considering future use.

Customer Support is excellent. The online help portal is probably the best I have ever seen. Great videos with content easily found. The HelpLine is staffed by knowledgeable people. The videos have saved us providing a lot of in-house training, which we would struggle to resource. The account managers really know the product and their law firm clients and share best practices and trends.

Alternatives Considered
Ironclad
IronClad is a comprehensive platform that allows legal teams, cross functional teams and approvers to keep track of the suggestions and changes made to legal agreements. It keeps everything in a single place, however it lacks the simplicity and practicality of DocuSign throughout the signing process, so we usually have to use both platforms to complete a legal workforce

Kira offers a lot more out of the box than other providers and is also more flexible around integrations. This, plus the clear pricing structure, is why we went for it instead of (or as well as) others. Diligen, RAVN, Leverton, Della, Seal not in list.

Return on Investment
Ironclad
  • Positive - Increased efficiency, as all work into the legal department flows into Ironclad. We can see where resources are being spent and which internal business partners are utilizing the legal department the most.
  • Positing - Better internal business partner service. We are able to communicate directly with our internal partners as to the status of their request and keep them apprised where we are in the negotiation process, etc.

Litera
  • Positive ROI: Increased comfort level of attorneys and use of tech
  • Neutral ROI: It has not significantly change how we handle projects, since there still is a need for manual review
  • Negative ROI: It has been cost prohibitive to scale it
