[k6 (formerly Load Impact)] is well suited to run performance automated suites and to run stress tests, spike tests and load tests[.] We can run tests from recorded [sessions] but we cannot run npm modules and we cannot run nod js libs[.]

Visual Studio Test Professional

Visual Studio Test Professional is best for .NET and C# based development, which is what 90% of our developers and projects do. It is an integral part of the CI/CD pipeline for our custom made Enterprise resource planning tool. It also works very well with Azure providing seamless integration to way more functionality.

Visual Studio Test Professional

  • Visual Studio Test Professional when paired with Azure DevOps is the best solution for Test Case Management when compared to other Testing tools we've used in the past.
  • Test Results and Artifacts are always available with full traceablility for audits.
  • Testing and Release Management are tied together as one continuous pipeline.

Cons

k6 (formerly Load Impact)

  • I would like to see k6 run in browsers
  • I would like to be able to import npm modules
  • I would like to see k6 has a GUI

Visual Studio Test Professional

  • The user community of the Visual Studio Test product is weak. For instant problems with this product, it is necessary to quickly reach the source of the error.
  • Licence fees need to be more reasonable. License prices need to be reduced so that they can easily compete with free testing tools.

Visual Studio Test Professional usability could be described as on the same level as other Visual Studio platform products. One very nice thing is the fact that usability aspects are improved with each new release. One example would be the test case navigation, which has been improved by introducing the keyboard shortcuts.

We ran into a few problems here and there and had to contact the support team and they are quite good at what they do. The support team professionals were quite prompt in solving the issue as communication never created any hindrance. Also, the documentation is quite extensive and properly laid out so that helped us solve a lot of issues on our own.

Alternatives Considered

k6 (formerly Load Impact)

K6 is a very different kind of tool to the other load testing tools we tried. Most other tools like LoadComplete for example are more focused on creating tests from a user interface, recording tests for running later, etc. These are all very good and useful, but if your focus is running load tests on APIs only, K6 is a very good option. It's also open source and therefore can be used even if you don't have the budget for buying a pro version of a load testing solution

Visual Studio Test Professional

The visual Studio Test tool is faster than other tools. Since the development and testing processes are in one tool, it is more profitable in terms of cost. It is more inconvenient to write a test case in DevOps.

Return on Investment

k6 (formerly Load Impact)

  • K6 make its easy to engage Devs in testing
  • Extremely fast installation make it count for us
  • Not using all system resources is a great benefit

Visual Studio Test Professional

  • One of the positive ROIs of Visual Studios is the fact that it makes producing our work at a quick rate, things like Intellisense make our work get produced at a much higher rate which is good for our return of investment.
  • Testing by the developers has increased by 23%, we now take the time to actually test our product before we send it to our QA people.
  • I am not aware of any negative ROI aspects to our company that have been found.
