Likelihood to Recommend

Kali Linux

The Kali [Linux] is not a cup of tea for everyone and not well suited for personal computer hence I recommend only relevant people in my organization and other contacts to prefer it for management and monitoring of information security, network security and penetration testing. I also recommend the mobile developers of organization to use it for reverse engineering of APK files to learn advance development methodologies.

Mobile Security Framework (MobSF)

Mobile Security Framework (MobSF) is particularly well suited for mobile application security assessments/pentests (Android and iOS). While it is a go to tool for a security guy, the developers can also use this tool to check if the scanner points out an issue or if there is a room for improvement in the app.

Mobile Security Framework (MobSF)

  • The dynamic testing analysis can be improved for both Android & iOS apps
  • Although the UI is great, it can still be improved - like a dark theme UI can be a great addition
  • Support to emulator can be improved as it slows down a lot when used with emulator.

Alternatives Considered

Kali Linux

Different suite of tools and need of specialists to be familiar with the tools to use the best features. Most of the users will be familiar with Kali Linux compared with Blackbox. But easy to switch between the two and is more to complement with each other on the areas needed to be tested.

Mobile Security Framework (MobSF)

Mobile Security Framework (MobSF) is probably when it comes for mobile applications. Tools like HCL AppScan and Checkmarx are some fine tools for code analysis but the overall job that Mobile Security Framework (MobSF) does for mobile applications is remarkable. It can be installed in windows, linux, mac which makes it user friendly and the size is also not much.
