Anytime we need to make any kind of log on any platform that we use, LogDNA is well suited. It is primarily used for logging errors on our server but also used for checking issues within our iOS apps when we need to identify a critical issue that is occurring. The search feature is very very good!

Splunk Light

Splunk light is awesome for anyone wanting to do proactive monitoring. It is also really well suited for insights into data with dashboards. Splunk light might not be a great choice if you do not want to manage the infrastructure on your own.

  • The UI is simple to use and hasn't ever been confusing for anyone to use on our team.
  • Backups are great since we do occasionally need to access logs from the past and it has helped us solve some problems.
  • Searching/filtering is great and I've always been able to get exactly what I need.

Splunk Light

  • Splunk Light doesn't include the ability to create data models or tables without paying for a large upgrade. This is a rather basic feature, I wish it had been included.
  • High Availability is another basic feature that is excluded, greatly limiting Splunk Light's usefulness.

It is very very good. They are responsive and very helpful. They also take the time to walk you through the issues you are having. But honestly, it is so straightforward that you rarely need to get support from their team. They are very helpful when you do need their support though.

Splunk Light support is limited to free Community Support and access to basic supports. The Base Support Program only covers online case submission and status. There is no 24/7 direct or phone access to advance global support team. Moreover, It does not provide any Service Level Agreement (SLA) on response and resolution time. However, for a non-mission critical or time-sensitive usage which requires high availability service the Base Support is already sufficient.

LogDNA

LogDNA was already setup when I started and it is offered through Heroku so that's why it was chosen. It's also cheaper I believe. Compared to Logentries, it does the same thing.

Splunk Light

Splunk Light was easy to install, has great support from the vendor, and great community support. Other logging solutions did not have these benefits when we were looking to buy Splunk. They were cheaper, but Splunk seemed to be the gold standard in log repository and indexing. Splunk Light was a perfect fit for what we needed.
