Logi Analytics

Well Suited - It's very easy for a non-developer to make clear/easily understood important data displaysGreat options for displaying data, UI provides great assistance helping you determine what chart, graph etc., to utilize for peak output.Saves tons of developer hours by allowing non-developers to be able to create and design things.Less Suited - It's not a big fan of displaying 1000 page PDFs but with adequate setup and drill downs, you can turn that huge PDF into 2 pages of what you actually need.

Izenda

White labeling/OEM scenarios are where Izenda shines. It's a nice solution and they have a good handle on the pricing. The system is customizable enough to do everything that's needed. We view it like unfinished furniture where we have to put the finishing touches on the system in order to make it work for our use case. Where it falls a bit is in usability. There are some rough edges which have to be coded around.

Pros

  • Flexibility and easy standup. Users can choose to create their own Logi application or do a "quick standup" by using design straight out of the box. Due to varied customer requirements, Logi allows the developer to address all needs.
  • Great design studio. The studio provided with Logi to create and maintain your Logi app gives a lot of detail and examples to guide you along the way. The tool even includes some additional tools for the layman to assist with deployment or wizards to help you create more complex type reports that otherwise would require more detailed technical knowledge to create. Of course, you can still do anything you want by hand if that is what you prefer!
  • Documentation. Logi's developer portal provides plenty of documentation and examples to get users going. Need to create a custom template that builds from a table rather than being hard-coded? Search the documentation and you will find examples to piece together to form your solution!

  • User and tenant management is excellent. It is very simple to implement and easy to manage.
  • The configurability and customizability are excellent. We have access to all aspects of the system and have rebranded and configured single sign on. The users really like it.
  • Reports and visualizations work. There's lots of flexibility and users enjoy creating reports themselves.

Cons

  • Logi Studio is currently only available on Windows. I understand the backend is ASP.net but it would be nice to have more flexibility in this given their software can also be java-based (we run their software on a Linux server using java).
  • Logi Info keeps all files as XML, which is fine and actually helps in terms of scripting report creation. The issue is that the majority of settings can only live on a server instead of a database. They do allow reports to now live in a database, but other aspects (such as users saving bookmarks and reports) cannot be and are all saved directly on the server.

  • They are in rapid development mode and some of the releases have had QA problems. The offering is quite young so this is expected.
  • There are several usability issues like sorting and other basic items which others have solved. This is an area of improvement when compared to other, more refined BI tools. We communicate in grids and the grid controls need some work.
  • Support responsiveness is as advertised but a bit slow when compared to other vendors we work with. In other words, they say they'll get back to us in 48 hours and they do what they say but we'd appreciate faster responses.

Logi Analytics is a great solution if you need just the user interface. However there are other tools stronger at the overall data flow which include a user interface as part of their product.

Alternatives Considered

We needed to be able to deploy in a Linux environment which ruled out some other vendors. Ultimately we determined the deployment, ease of use, and licensing all favored Logi Analytics above the others.

We compared to other end user tools like Qlik, Tableau and Power BI. These tools are very refined but not positioned for OEM/Embedded use cases. The closest we came was logi and Birst and the price and business model of Izenda was much more appealing

Collaboration and Sharing

The Team Development tools in Logi Info include a Locking feature which locks all files when a Developer leaves them and requires manual unlocking. Unlocking is denied if another Developer has the definition unlocked. The other Team Dev feature is a file saving option. However, this 'versioning' is all or nothing and contains nothing for true versioning/merging. The only true versioning for Logi must be done by versioning the xml files underlying the application in SVN, GIT, etc.

Easy to share and collaborate with emails. Dashboard presentation is also quite nice. Limited capabilities beyond that

Works well, we have multiple data sources all connecting and integrating and it works as advertised

Overwhelmingly SQL with recent addition of Redshift. Multiple sources can be merged but it's better done elsewhere for speed

Return on Investment

  • Customer feedback has been overwhelming with regard to the intuitiveness of the application.
  • End users are able to quickly gain insights in minutes about data that previously would have required hours or even days to generate and compare multiple reports.
